most guides are vids now, so people can claim some money from the work they did, I don't disagree with this option, but I miss the old days

freakin rights, like I prefer to read things than listen to a video, I hate this about certain sites, like an mma article i'd rather read it but then then they'll have a "article" that's just a video, I don't even watch those.

It will be, especially given the history that most of us have with this site (and the things it's archived for us). And it's hard to ignore that a lot of the problem is almost certainly the site's moderation practices, which have driven off countless legitimate posters while turning a blind eye to trolls and other problematic individuals who never seem to get modded at all.

I also prefer written content to having to watch/listen to a video until I get to the relevant portion. However, nowadays I'm more likely to use a wiki or just google that information for a guide with images. The all-text guides aren't always useful for many things.

Nah, I doubt that has much of anything to do with it. The vast majority of people have no difficulty avoiding moderation, especially when it comes to discussing games.

The biggest issue is that GameFAQs - as a concept - just isn't really relevant anymore. Guides and FAQs have been pretty much completely obviated by Wikis (which are vastly more efficient for both content creation and consumption) and video guides (which offer more detailed explanations, with examples). The message boards are still pretty outdated, even after the attempts to modernize them with v13 several years ago and gradual addition of standard forum features, such that Reddit, Steam, and other more popular forums have mostly replaced them. There's very little incentive for new users to choose GameFAQs for their game discussions/inquiries over alternatives, and the old users that stick around because it's familiar and/or they've made connections with communities here (see: all of us that rarely leave PotD when we're on the site) are gradually drifting away. All of that adds up to a gradual death.

Most of those videos aren't even actual guides. It's just lets plays with annoying commentary most of the time. I remember not being able to find a treasure chest and there wasn't any guide on here for it so had to find a video on Youtube for it.

I doubt Gamefaqs will shut down anytime soon. It would be pretty bad if it did since there's no other good gaming sites.

these were my thoughts too, just no new users and people eventually don't come here anymore
