I have an AT&T which is giving me internet mostly but will not recognize the default access code. I have a Nighthawk which does not pair well with my Lenovo and which currently cannot be accessed with any browser and the Nighthawk app which does connect lacks menus for functions.

Finally I have a new to me router which I am setting up and it recognizes my Xperia (Sony android phone) with a weird name and MAC but works with it. I am wondering if I did something to cause the weird name and MAC. Between covid-19 and our current commander in chief my memory is less reliable than my routers.

keep turning them off and on until they work again. Now that will be $200 for the tech support.

Yes. I have checked plugs: electrical and ethernet and cable. We are talking about wifi here. Let me remind you that the new-to-me router is associating a different MAC with my phone than the one in the specs.

I'd say call AT&T support but I wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemies

I fairly certain that I need a new at&t modem||router but now is not the best time. I really do not think that what is wrong with the at&t box is causing problems with the routers plugged into it. They are just ethernet plugs and nothing fancy.

I had a similar problem with my Spectrum router, and once they looked me up they were shocked it lasted as long as it did since they told me the one I had was ancient. Ever since I replaced it it's been working fine.

I can now access the nighthawk function via browser. It may have been internet overload and the ever dropping signal from living on the wrong side of Damen Avenue (Chicago)

I still do not know why my Sony Xperia has a funny MAC. Maybe the new to me router reassigned it to fix problems the Xperia has? One of the reasons for messing with another router is that my Sony Xperia intermittently declares the Nighthawk router to be out of range

AT&T just get a new box when tock issues normalize

Nighthawk browser problem gone. Might have been a problem with 10.0.0.1 being 10.0.0.2 or some such.

new-to-me The funny MAC was due to XPERIA being able to give a random MAC.

* * *

I still have a problem. When I turn off SSID broadcast, the XPERIA can still connect and mostly connects but sometimes just will not. I actually read through the XPERIA manual and was not able to find anything. (I did fix a bunch of other problems I caused by having settings wrong).

X P E R I A anyone? There used to be an ask the community site for XPERIA but it seems to be gone.

Are you sure there isn't a stranger in your home with the exact same phone as you with a different MAC who knows your wi-fi password?

Topic is a little confusing but it seems like what happened was that you plugged a new router into the old and you lost internet? You have to put it into bridge mode or configure a Double NAT.

Guess it was eventually fixed, but you probably have a Double NAT now, which can have issues.

I read the manual but missed that there is a hidden network entry where you say Yes/No
