Current Events > Doesn't Kylo Ren's arc negate the established mythology? (spoilers)

We were always told that the Dark Side is "quicker, easier, more seductive" than the Light, yet Kylo Ren is a character decidedly struggling with the Light Side calling him. He actively commits horrible deeds, including murdering his father, in an attempt to remain in the darkness. This is totally at odds with the original mythology, isn't it?

Or is it simply explained by Ben and Rey forming a "dyad in the Force," since their lives and destinies are intertwined, they don't necessarily follow the same path as everyone else. The Dark doesn't necessarily seduce them, etc.?

It's just a metaphor for his conscience. I wouldn't take it too literally.

Wow. The concept of "struggling with the Light Side calling him" actually sounds really cool the way you describe it. Like a bad guy constantly fighting against the instinct to be good. That's actually a pretty cool twist on the whole "good guy resisting evil temptation"

That's not really the contradiction. The Dark Side is easier and quicker. It's how Kylo gains power so quickly. But he still feels guilt and feelings of not being worthy. Falling to the dark side doesn't mean you are automatically happy with where your life has ended up. Ben just mistakenly believes that if he kills the people trying to help him he'll feel better. But he won't.
