i think that depends on how important politics are to you. if you're the type of person who absolutely cannot be compatible with someone who holds opposing beliefs, its probably something you should figure out before taking things too far, don't wanna waste anyone's time.

if you're the type of person who is relatively apathetic about politics, just leave it alone.

I think it's fairly improper to bring up politics on a first date. I mean, if politics are a huge part of your life (like, as part of your career, not just that you watch the news all the time), I get it, that makes sense to talk about it, but if you're not implicitly seeking out some type of agreement/affirmation about your political beliefs from this stranger that you're just getting to know, then you're opening yourself up to what could be a fairly contentious debate...which is a dating no-no. There's a lot more pertinent social/cultural stuff you can pick up on more subtly in a first date than having to just go the straight up 'political talk' route.

Yes bring it up immediately. Lets you know if you can go home early and you can tell them not to contact you again in person. If it turns out they have mostly the same political opinions as you then that's a great sign of long term compatibility.

I just dont understand what people get out of it. I understand getting mad occasionally at people here, Ive done it myself, but to make it my entire personality? Just seems like that would get exhausting and depressing.

To recall my earlier post, I actually can take comfort in the fact when Im having a bad day or whatever that there are people here who like me. And tbh its nice to be able to do so.
