I voted Vanille but could have just as easily voted Hope. Both dreadful characters. Snow sucks too but he got a bit better as the game went on

Don't understand the gate for Hope

My vote is for Edward.

Kimahri at least looks cool (at times) and is basically a early version of Auron and Rikki.

Besides a single dungeon, Edward is worthless in everything.

I haven't played 13 (because everyone tells me it's terrible) so I'll vote Edward. It's been a while since I played 4 but I remember him being pretty weak as a party member and really only sticking around for a short while before peacing out.

Rinoa is cool. Not sure why she's on the list.

Cait Sith is admittedly the party member I never use ever but he's also kinda got an interesting twist to him and a decent scene near the end.

Kimhari is also kinda bland, by nature of both his character and the game mechanics. Making him a jack of all trades basically made him bad at everything instead of having some strengths.

And of course Vaan, everyone has a problem with because he's just kinda along for the ride. But I liked that about him. Not the chosen one. No dark past that comes back to haunt him. He gets dragged into an adventure and he's happy to just get out and see the world.

Gameplay wise , if I want a sentinel , I'd rather use Fang . And story wise , I couldn't care less about his annoying stupid ass , or his whiny girlfiend .

Hope was annoying at first but at least he got some character growth and wound up being a useful party member... you arguably cant say that about a few characters here.

Umaro was alright in certain sitches, problem is you got him far too late in most games.

Cait was literally a casino game. Most of the time he sucked and then once in a while he would cheese-win a boss.

Cait Sith is at least interesting in concept, once you know his full deal. Hes painful to use in combat and doesnt have nearly as much good dialogue as he should, though.

I don't care if you like him or not. He's still a God-tier character. Wind GOD Gau, that's his fan name. He can solo every single encounter in the game at Level 1

I'd say I disliked Vanille more so than Hope but both are equally pitiable

Gau gets a lot of leeway from me for two reasons: tragic backstory, and having the best theme song in FF 6 (which is pretty damn high praise, considering that its FF 6). It only plays twice in the entire game, and in the age before OSTs and .mp3s I would let the game sit for 10-15 minutes just so I could listen to it.

He also has access to enemy skills that even Strago can't touch - like Flare Star - which are fun to play around with.

Why does everyone hate Edward so much? Ok obv hes the worst character in IV but his character I find endearing once he gets some growth.

Out of these, it's Edward. He's a prince who should be fighting for his kingdom, but instead can't function because his girlfriend predictably dies. He's garbage for most of the game and never gives you a reason to like him.

Hope is a literal child dealing with the death of his mother after Snow sends her on a suicide mission. Similar story to Edward, be actually has reason to be angry and eventually has development. Doesn't hurt that he's a great party member.

I think you guys are all sleeping on how terrible and useless Gordon is. He's Edward but worse in a game all about character investment.

Rinoa is also a good choice. For a large portion of the game she actively hampers your team's and her own goals. Her attraction to Squall, besides maybe some repressed memories, is based on nothing but physicality. She really makes Squall's attitude all the worse just by being around.

Sad Eiko didn't make it. Play the game again and focus on her, she's got a very toxic view of romance even for a literal child.

He also gets kind of badass later. In the GBA / TAY he gets a harp that has 4x weakness attack against all monsters that stacks with 2x weakness for dealing holy damage against holy weak enemies.

TAY further upgrades his character by letting him use an item on the whole party at once and the song ability gets a huge buff. He's actually the best healer in the game.

Don't understand the hate for Hope tbh. He's the best healer in the game, and his backstory isn't as bad as Amarant's for example.

But w/e, CE's hate boner for everything FFXIII related continues.

After thinking on it, I'll go with my original gut reaction of Amarant.

• Weird, confusing design. Blue with no face, but huge hair and neck. And also listed as human despite all that.
• Introduced way too late for you to care about.
• What little character arc he has is basically an after school special of "friends are dumb. I don't need them!" What a doofus.
• And he's back story is that he was such a doofus that he got dunked on by Zidane and made a life mission on some Zidane immediately forgot about.

What a nerd.

No one should say Hope. Hope had some character development. Vaan on the other hand, actually devolved as a character as the game progressed. The main driving focus of him going on an adventure was to avenge his brother, but that was only mentioned a handful of times before it was never spoken about again. Then he becomes essentially a Britany Spears backup dancer, because even in his own game he becomes a backup character.

I realize Ashe was supposed to be the main character, but she wasn't even introduced until 1/4 way through the game, and even her motivations were barely spoken of, or acted upon. I argue they should have pulled a Laguna with her and had side stories with her at vital points of the main game, until she joins the main roster, where she has a lot more driving force against the main antagonist.

I appreciate the hate for Hope (less so the 13 bashing, but irrelevant), but at least he's good in battle.

Eh, I'd never argue with anyone who disliked his character (although he doesn't bother me personally), but mechanically he's an excellent character. He's the best support character in the game which means he makes it into almost every top tier party.

On topic, I voted Umaro. My actual picks for worst character aren't on this list.
