Is the show trying to make me feel sympathetic towards Thomas? Because I don't. His misery and isolation is entirely self inflicted.

i definitely felt for Thomas. he was a dick to a lot of people, sure, but he was struggling with himself. he was a homosexual during a time when it was wholly unacceptable, definitely not his choosing.

man, i loved that show. i didn't think it would appeal to me because of the hoity toity rich people stuff, but it has some superb human drama going on.

man, i loved that show. i didn't think it would appeal to me because of the hoity toity rich people stuff, but it has some superb human drama going on.
My wife got me into it and I was very surprised how much I liked it. It actually started a love for period dramas.

Regarding Thomas, yeah most of it was his own doing. He believes the only way to keep his job and hide his homosexuality was to keep a distance from everyone as well as learn their secrets for blackmail purposes. Near the end of the show, he starts realizing that's no way to live.

The first 2 seasons were incredible, some of the best TV I've seen. But I got the sense that they were running out of ideas, and I didn't enjoy the new characters as much as the old ones. I think I stopped sometime during season 5.
