...and still has her job.

All I know is that the door handle is smashed off the GM's office, and the other manager told me what happened.

Supposedly, this coworker got a phone call a few days ago from someone claiming to be the new hotel owner(there is no new owner btw). He told her that it was very important for him to get all the cash, and any valuables from the office. She told him it was locked and she couldn't get in. So he told her to do whatever she had to do to get in, or else she'd be fired and he'd sue her. So she took a hammer, and smashed the handle off the door. She was in the middle of gathering up all the money and valuables that she could when the thought occured to her that she might just be being duped.

So, she called the GM and told her that she broke in and was going to take the stuff to the new owner... That's when the GM put a stop to it.

But like... none of that makes sense. Why would any reasonable person believe a random phone call? And to trust that person enough to literally commit burglary for them? Plus, I suppose management is ok with this because she was "tricked".

Yeah. I wouldn't have believed the phone call... I don't know why she did...

If there's no proof that that's how it all went down, I'm inclined to believe it was just a heist called off halfway.

Her excuse is that it made her anxious over losing her job, so she did everything they asked. The thing is, we were told like a month ago about scam callers doing this, and to not give out any info or items. Policy is, tell them to call the GM, if they are who they say they are they'll have her number.

That's sort of what I'm inclined to think. These two are very impulsive, I'm thinking she broke in then realized that everyone would automatically know it was her(you need a password to even reach the office). So she cooked up this excuse.

Either way, I'm just kind of dumbfounded at the whole situation.

I saw a story about a woman who was stupid enough to cut off her nipples and flush them down the toilet because of a random phone call. There was also the fast food manager that strip searched a female coworker because of a random phone call. People can be really fucking dumb.

At least this stupid chick that you work with stopped halfway through and decided to call someone that she knew. This is what saved her.

This. Not been able to follow protocol should mean she's fired as she can't be trusted however she eventually used her brain.

As ridiculous as it is for somebody to believe that, it's possibly even more ridiculous that somebody would actually try to convince somebody of that.

Sounds like she was trying to rob the place and realized midway through that there was a security camera capturing her actions, so she then abandoned the heist and tried to come up w/ an excuse for what had already been caught on film.

In any case, she should be fired and have charges filed against her. "But....but... At least she didn't actually rob anything!" Yeah, so her criminal/civil penalties will be lower. *shrug*

Oh lord.
But yeah, calling her is what saved her, but it was after she broke through the door. Maybe I'm biased since this couple has been a thorn in my side for a year, but Im not sure that should be forgiven so easily.

There's only like 2 of us that actually follow the rules. It doesn't seem to be a big deal.

I have no idea. I'm not even sure exactly when it happened. I just started back to work yesterday and saw this last night.

Tbh, I've seen them come up with excuses for things I know for a fact they had planned. The excuses are always dumb, I think they bank on people would rather not believe they're trying to sell such BS.

This what I want to believe. This seems most likely, and more in tune with what they've done in the past. But, all I know is what my manager told me yesterday. So, I guess I'll just have to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I feel like there are two things that should be done at a BARE MINIMUM before believing her story:

1) Review the security footage. If there's a moment after she breaks in where she looks towards the camera, possibly freezes up for a moment, and then after that her actions change and she stops and then calls the manager.... it pretty strongly corroborates she's feeding you guys bs.

2) Get a copy of her phone records from her provider, go through a court order if necessary. Find the received calls she got BEFORE the time of the break in in the ~12 hours prior to it, and see if any of those numbers could have been the alleged scammer. Calls after the break in mean nothing, and could just be her trying to provide evidence of her claims after the fact.

I mean the manager should, not you personally. But it sounds like the manager doesn't really give a shit.

Personally, I happen to agree with the sentiment that she should be fired. Even assuming that her story is true. If it were then she's too dumb to trust. If not true then she's a criminal and still super dumb.

Tbh, I'm not sure it would've been caught on camera. The door in question is around a corner and the cameras are on the corner facing away from it. I haven't spent much time inside the office, but I don't think there's one in there at all.

I agree here. But it's not my call. Honestly, they would've gone months ago when they faked their Covid results.

Yea, she got cold feet mid-heist. There's also a record of the call. Don't you have security cameras? Why wouldn't a new owner call management? And why would they need the cash and valuables?

We do have cameras. We have some overlooking the area where we check people in at. Then we have some on the corner above the door she broke, facing the storage area and the main employee entrance which requires a password to even open. Plus, she was the only one with access to that area when it happened. So, no matter what they'd know it was her. I think she likely got upset or angry, broke in, then realized her mistake.

Sorry for the weird angle, there's some papers in a bin on the left, and a note on the door higher up with some info I shouldn't be showing. So weird angle it it is. The door handle is just gone now, I assume it's inside. Looks like maybe she also tried to get at the hinges on the other side and failed.

But yeah, that's all it is currently. It's the story I was told that's hard to swallow. I'll see the husband Tuesday night, so I might get more info then.

Then again, he's the conspiracy theorist that says China is going to drop a "mp3" on us.
