Some people can
I've gone months without drinking because I just got bored with it or wanted to use the time for something else
Most people can't though and think if they break their usual habit for a few days then they're proving a point

Junkies for weed definitely are in more denial
alcoholics tend to have the claim of 'if I stop I die from withdrawls'
Whereas junkies are like 'bro not physically adictive medical science proves lolz can quit when I want" but they rarely can
Alcoholics can quit better with help. Junkies for weed tend to ignore help because they're idiots

Depends on the situation.

Let's say you really like beer. Or gin. Or bourbon. Or scotch. Or whatever, and you drink every day. But you don't get drunk and it doesn't negatively impact your life. If someone said, "stop drinking," wouldn't that be an appropriate response? Oh no, you drink a few drinks daily... so? Why quit if you don't want to in that circumstance?

I've said that I'd probably be classified as a high-functioning alcoholic for having 5+ drinks every day for over a decade. The look of horror some people give to that. Meanwhile, I'm more than gainfully employed and help run our own business on top of that, don't drink and drive, aren't abusive, and have a perfectly happy and healthy family life with my wife and kids.

Drinking's only a problem when it causes problems. If some schlob keeps drinking after getting DUIs or their life falls into shambles, yeah, sure. Then it absolutely is a problem. But drinking regularly isn't the same as drinking to excess regularly.

I know too many pot heads who have this whole speech down in their head on how the stuff is good for them and this whole thing and while maybe they're right? And maybe they're still addicted? lol

Just feels so weird that they claim they're not addicted but this worship on it is just so extreme. And for some reason, they ALWAYS want to share it with you....its some cult.

Holy shit.

Meanwhile, if someone said they had 5+ sodas everyday, it'd be viewed as nothing.

A drink at lunch.

A drink in the afternoon.

A couple drinks in the evening.

Sometimes a nightcap.

That's not a lot. It's not like I'm pounding beers nonstop.

what doesn't make sense is why is it okay to have other vices but god forbid you have a few drinks to unwind after a work day, Or why is it okay not to do that, but get completely blackout wasted on the weekends?

Too bad the lack of soda won't change my body shape *sigh* but I still stay away from it as best as I can because at one point, I'd go to a soda to chug down because I was thirsty...like it were water..AND THE WATER WAS JUST SITTING RIGHT THERE NEXT TO IT!

So I made a change. I need to diet next.

Yes, it's a lot.

What are you drinking, anyway?

Do you have family that can take care of you if your disease advances?

Usually a beer at lunch and in the evenings.

A glass of bourbon or scotch on the rocks in the afternoon.

Nightcap varies as I like to experiment with that, but I've been on a cognac train as of late. Will probably have a french connection tonight.

And yadda yadda, disease, yadda yadda. We're pretty rich, my kids will be fine financially even if I got hit by a car tomorrow, which has a better chance of happening versus me somehow losing it despite how long I've been fine.

See this is how you know you're the problem

Like you're trying to deflect in such a way that we're meant to be living up to your expectations
Here's the part you won't like but is true: you're fucking killing yourself faster than having a half liter of soda a day would do to you if you keep it up

My point is why is it okay to be addicted to sugar, gambling, fast food, lying, manipulation, and etc yet to hell with someone that wants to have a few drinks 5 nights out of the week. Everyone has a vice, you are getting some temporarily stress relief out of something.

why yes, yes I am.

As for being harsh on drinkers, I am not trying to be. I just feel that doing it daily can be..a little strange, especially during lunch. Also I know I have an issue which is probably a lot different than someone who doesn't know they have an issue.

I'm not going to spout out about how its my body or that I made the decision. I have a problem with eating, especially with stress involved.

I like my soda but I only drink a lot if there was already a lot and I wanted it gone. And I would not do it faster than one can per day or one glass if it's a big bottle. Generally, I like to save them for tasty meals so there's a tasty drink with it. By tasty meal I mean a meal I find tasty. Which isn't most meals actually because I only like specific things.
