Probably not now but when the oceans start swallowing up landmass and the droughts make a lot of the remaining land unsuitable for cultivation this place is gonna start looking a lot more cramped.

In terms of what it could handle if everything was optimized, no. In terms of what our current infrastructure can handle when accounting for the basic quality of life necessities for everyone on earth, yes. Given that we're naturally wasteful and selfish creatures, I don't think it's realistically possible to sustain our current population or above without such a large percentage being in poverty. Even if we could, we'd be looking at some kind "restrict free will, everyone is a sheep to be herded" kind of situation.

It's in our core biology to be selfish and tribalistic. Applying that to a population of millions or billions simply makes that more evident. It doesn't matter what system we bring forth. There is no fixing that issue. The only way everyone could be happy is with an abundance of resources to the point where nobody would need to fight over them, and even then we'd fine someone being an asshole about it for some reason.

If you consider (and accept) the negative impact humans have on climate change, then yes; the world is overpopulated. What we do to house, feed and control our billions of fellow humans has a cost that includes more than just the financial side of things. Whittle those billions down to a few thousand and all of a sudden the planet (i.e. the rest of the flora and fauna of the world) wont be burdened by our overpopulation.

Now, if we are just talking about living space and not considering human comfort levels or climate change, then Hell no; the world is not overpopulated. We could get away with stacking people like sardines in gigantic, multi-tiered cage apartments and figure out ways to colonize our oceans, if we want to go that route. Almost every other animal will probably be extinct, but wed be making use of all that space they used to occupy.

I guess if you ignore all of human history in which poverty and strife have been everpresent, sure. Feel free to point out any singular point in time in which all of humanity organized to make sure everyone was cared for. Spoiler alert, it's not the fault of capitalism.

Fuck yes it is. Are you kidding me? The woods I use to play in are an apartment complex. The creek I use to play in is now a storm drain in a neighborhood. We hit overpopulated sometime in the late 90s.
