Hojo's hoping to create Ancient specimens for study that won't die out as fast (given she's the blast remaining Ancient) Red XIII also says it was just an act so hojo didn't get suspicious. Though do to the old school janky animations, it looked more like Red was just being aggressive/going to attack.
