It really wasn't that special. It was a really vanilla Zelda title.

Because if something is off by even a couple of decimals of what people were expecting, they lose their minds.

People were pissed it got an 8.8 when they felt it should have been at least a 9.0. But I honestly think if it got a 9.0 when they were expecting a 9.2, the reaction probably wouldn't have been as bad.

Nintendo fanboys lost their minds. It was a very fair review. Back then most people considered OoT to be the greatest gaming experience of all time and TP was supposed to be the successor.

In reality TP is a much better overall game than OoT, it just isn't nearly as prolific. I still enjoy playing it for Wii.

Because the internet is filled with adolescents and adults who never matured beyond adolescence whove grown an unhealthy, borderline religious attachment to their hobby, such that they develop their sense of morals and values around that hobby instead of anything based in reality. anything that threatens the integrity of that hobby threatens their very world view.

Zelda is a 10/10 franchise. So its titles deserve 10/10. If it doesnt get 10/10, its akin to blasphemy.

honestly 8.8 is a little generous but I never bothered reading the review so maybe it was written badly, which would be par for the course with game journalism >_>

I remember the meltdown when IGN gave Assassin's Creed 1 a 7.5, when everyone thought it should have been way higher.

In hindsight, a 7.5 is being very generous.
