It doesn't need a rewrite of the bill. They could've done the vote on a standalone $2k bill.

That would be a whole new bill, which would require a rewrite

They have an amendment on an existing bill that includes $2000 checks among other things, not a standalone bill that gives $2000 checks.

Again, which requires writing a new bill. You clearly don't actually know shit about the rules and red tape of government. Either go learn about it, listen to people who do, or shut the fuck up.

Who the fuck cares. This board isn't exactly representative of the current state of the American working class.

This is what I got from CNN.

Is this true or partial facts?

https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/24/politics/house-vote-stimulus-checks-government/index.html

Republicans countered the Democratic effort today with a proposal to strip out a piece of the spending package that included foreign aid -- an area Trump attacked after Congress cleared the bill. Those provisions, however, were largely in line with Trump's own budget request and were supported by the vast majority of Republicans. That effort was rejected by Democrats.

Mitch needs to go but at the same time, wtf dems.

True. But, even more to the point I'm trying to make, if you think stimulus is bad because it's not well-targeted, then you should be incredibly mad at Trump and the republicans. The Democrats have fought against them and successfully got UI enhancements added onto the bill over their objections. Mcconnell and trump originally wanted $600 stimulus payments to the exclusion of $300/week in UI.

But idk where this guy is coming from

Sad.

It's really hard to accept that politics are so broken in this country that we can't provide citizens the means to stay afloat during a global pandemic. There is such a huge disconnect between actual people and those making the decisions.

It almost feels like France before the revolution.

Right. I'm pretty sure that's because everyone already went home for Christmas, not because there's some procedural or constitutional reason otherwise as some people are suggesting. Though I could be wrong of course. I think the only reason people are there at all is to prevent Trump from making recess appointments

You have to keep in mind that deficits are bad for countries. There are millions of open jobs in the US that people can apply to.

Jobs that pay a lot less then the ones they lost and possibly have a risk of getting the pandemic. It's also to boost the economy that has been disrupted by the lockdowns and fear of the pandemic. It's more then jsut getting a handout.
