Perhaps because he believes making streaming copyrighted material a felony is absurd.

A win win.

Dont stream illegal content and you wont have an issue.

It would cut down on the number of trash streamers too when people who stream need to have done their homework or else they land in the pokey. Most randos wont put in the effort and you will only have people who really care.

That and if you want to become a streamer, now would be your chance since the pnd will have many less fish in it. Its like going back in time but retaining all the info you know now.

So, will this effect twitch streamers? I'm honestly asking, cause of they get paid in donations, they're technically NOT making money off of the game their streaming right?
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I'm just rather confused.

Also been told that it specifically isn't targeting small players

Absolutely, it's insanely fucking stupid that politicians are allowed to force completely unrelated matters to be passed or rejected together.

But I mean, what else would I expect from a country whose courts insist that huge donations to politicians' election campaigns aren't a form of bribery that influences their decisions in any way.

You know that means live streaming yourself walking down the street would be a felony if a car with music playing drives by and you have a sub button
From bigger streamers who looked at this bill with actual lawyers, yeah this is pretty much exactly what could happen. Now those DMCA strikes that happen on accident sometimes could wind up landing you in jail instead of just getting your videos or vods taken down.

My opinion: this will gum up the courts so bad that itll be deemed unenforceable. This will essentially cause fair use to be hard defined, rather then being a loose interpretation. Essentially the only thing this will effect is the random person doing one off streams.

Chances are itll be challenged in courts anyways as something like this cant be just shoved in something like this.

But a more important question is...

... why the fuck is this in a Covid relief bill?

Take that shit out and put it in a bill that has something to do with streaming and media instead of trying to sneak shit in the law by piggybacking it on a completely unrelated bill.

Seriously something has to be done to stop this incredibly disingenuous practice.
You know why. It's absolutely bullshit and in any sort of logical world would be an outright banned practice. But here we are in America... >.>

Agreed, it wouldn't be quite as bad if they didn't slip so much sneaky shit like this into bills that are in public concious a "sure thing" like the COVID relief bill. If you vote against them because of the riders, the next election they throw up the ads that you're an evil bastard for opposing this bill, quietly ignoring the fact that a ton of money was going to stupid shit or it was setting up a new Government department, or it was banning something.

It's disgusting, tbh.

If you vote against the bill, your opponents will brandish you as having voted against much-needed relief for the people who are suffering in this Covid world.

If you vote for the bill, you're doing some lobby's bidding and letting them sneak stuff in the law that only benefits them at the expense of everyone else.
Yep exactly. It's text book corruption.

Why are things like this, completely unrelated to COVID relief, being thrown into this bill? What else is there? This kind of legislating is bull shit. Bills should he single subject so that people know what is actually happening.

I don't even care anymore. The internet has been tamed and dead for years now. Google underestimated the cost of exponential data being uploaded to their site and want YouTube to be more like network television so they can sell advertising. There are more important issues, like censoring allegations of corruption and fraud in the government so who cares about some copyright dispute.

First of all that attitude and mindset is why shit stains like Tillis get away with this kind of bullshit. Second if everyone contacts their representatives, the goal is that other reps from other states will put pressure on him. It's certainly better than doing nothing and does occasionally work.

It's already this way in a lot of countries, all this means is you need to get what essentially boils down to a rubber stamp from a company saying "Yes, you can stream this on your channel. Just don't do illegal shit while doing it."

Honestly most game makers will probably just set up an automated system if it gets too heavy.

Is it annoying though? Yeah.

That likely is the intent of the law, but we can't make a law specifically for that without inevitably fucking up legitimate streaming services so it has to be vague which punishes literally everyone else.
