That's not the answer. Open everything and let it spread unchecked. Think about the economy and wait for a vaccine.

Moderate confidence, may be up to 70%, early research, uncertain data, etc.

I'm not saying it's not true, but don't come back angry in three months if it doesn't turn out to be correct.

So say there's a serious mutation in the coronavirus, would a vaccine against the current strain's "design"/features just push this other one to become the prominent actor and just start infecting people again?

It should, yup. So you should be even more angry at anti mask, covid denying smooth brains and vaccine conspiracy theorists.

And this is why letting it spread unchecked is a terrible idea.

Arent the mRNA vaccines supposed to be better against mutations? Or was that just some speculation I read? Hard to keep up with everything.
For now, it should be fine. If everybody gets vaccinated soon enough. However, many experts believe the virus can develop a vaccine resistant stain.

"This virus is potentially on a pathway for vaccine escape, it has taken the first couple of steps towards that."

vaccines arent enough to keep up with the variants.

dunno but arent flu vaccines stronger than they were ever before and covid19 is "like" a flu virus?

Well the hope was to rid the world of covid before it has the chance to become an inevitable yearly disease. But who knows. Maybe this is the first yearly vaccine for covid produced for the yearly strain.

Not quite the same - flu vaccines use inactivated virus to train your immune system, the new COVID19 vaccine uses messenger RNA to make your cells create spike proteins as like targets to train your immune system against.

The COVID19 vaccine is the first mRNA vaccine to ever be approved for human use, the technology has been studied for several years but it's just never been deployed on a wide-spread full market scale before.

No, the vaccine will cover a mutation. Covid-19 can't just suddenly mutate into something way worse. It doesn't work like that. it's not the FLU.

This.

TC left out the part about how epidemiologists stated that the new variant doesn't change anything for vaccines.
Current vaccines should and will still be effective for any of these variants that mutate, making it even more important for people to get vaccinated.

Isnt the vaccine questionable due to how quick it came out?
