First I would ask is why you want your modem and router on the same device.

Second, I would tell you not to get anything lower than docsis 3.1. Regardless if you have the internet for it to matter, eventually you might.

That said, I have no alternative recommendations in that price range.

I guess i should mention

I apparently passed up taking devices from the provider to avoid paying any additional fees

So I'm saving over 100 bucks a year.

I don't remember doing this but its a very ME thing that's happening

That might explain why I have such a device

Only thing I can say is the 6300BD is apparently discontinued while the other is not. The other is only made for Charter, but people report it working on other ISPs, sometimes with having to get support to fix stuff to those networks.

The discontinued information may have been incorrect.

The 6300BD has a much faster router. With AC1900 compared to the N450 for the other. Get the 6300 if those are your 2 options.

I don't quite know much of what you just said but I appreciate it.

I probably could keep researching but the problem is most listings are either very robotic with stock pictures and them selling hundreds of them and/or the sellers have not so good feedback.

I mean, I would never in a million years but a used router/modem. But, if those are your two options the N is rather older technology. It may be suitable for what you need, but the AC is a step up. AX right now is the newest, but it isn't very defined.

If you weren't on a budget, I would recommend the arris 8200 surfboard docsis 3.1. it's a great modem. Then you could decide what router to get based on your space and speed needs.

I don't have much to add beyond what Corrik's already said here - as a matter of fact, I have the exact same modem he just recommended, coupled with the Netgear Nighthawk AC2300 as my router. They've proven to be an absolute dream team and have given me the smoothest experience I've ever had with home internet.

It's been a really long time since I've shopped for this kind of equipment on a budget - particularly as tight of one as you're asking for here. I generally wouldn't advise buying used just because there are so many problems you can experience, and having your internet crash is always super frustrating, but you're not going to do much better at that price range.

Modem/router combos are just generally jankier than buying separate devices. They've always felt far more prone to failure in my experience and the router side of the equation is basically never as good as getting a separate box.

The more you put into a device the more ways it can go wrong. In a previous setup I had a modem/router combo unit and it was pure hell. Then I read up on them and the basic thing to take away from it was that finding a good router on its own is hard, condensing the technology into a modem only makes it harder.

This may of course have changed over time, but it's something I stray away from.

And, yeah, my setup cost a good bit. You can find sales on stuff here and there. But if you have gigabyte internet you need doc sis 3.1. it's as simple as that.

Now from there, you determine what is all going to be wired, wireless, space in between, the wireless cards in conjunction for what your router should be able to do. You obviously want dual or tri bands or so on if you want the best latency possible in regards to gaming competively.

I mean, you are bare bonesing it so I expect you have just cheap internet so this may be good enough for you. If you ever intend to have more, you want to make sure your equipment can handle it or you are paying for nothing.

Again. It all in the end depends on your needs and space.

If you have a big house, you need range. If you have a family, you need more bandwidth due to devices drawing off of it.

Etc etc.

I don't believe we have each other added on there yet.
