Making Arthur sound and act like the sidekick meathead in an action comedy movie was an...interesting design choice.

One my favorite games of all time. It got that position overtime but I enjoyed it from the prologue.

Arthur's only flaw is he's loyal to a fault. He knows he's just a lackey so he plays the part. You'll learn he's a lot deeper and introspective than he presents himself

Him being kind of a meat head is what makes him great. He's self aware about it too. Like other said, he definitely will grow on you.

I wish I could play it for the first time again. Enjoy it.

So I don't want to over hype the game or anything and this may sound hyperbolic, but by the time the game was over, I thought Arthur was the best character in video game history. Lot of that may be how I played him, but god damn.

This

Arthur is muscle, he knows it, he doesnt think too hard about what he has to do. It was refreshing to playing something outside the usual "protagonist is the humble leader of everyone he meets" trope

His arc is awesome. RDR2 is as close to a 10/10 game there is imo

I've been playing games for 30 years and I agree with you on that. Even this long after the hype train died down, and having played through twice, I think he's one of the best written videgame protags ever

he also turns out to be incredibly well-written and full of depth.

Just finished it last month. Great game, but I got tired of being beaten over the head with Dutch's ineptitude after a while.

This. I started the game when it first came out but never made it far. Just got bored.

After dedicating myself to get further, I realize now how much Arthur really grew on me and I'm still not even close to being done with the game.

I havent done a bad playthrough, but a good playthrough was extremely satisfying.

A lot of people complain about the slowness of the game, but I think it was by design to give you time to be reflective of the events as they unfold. Going from action point to action point without that time would really take away from the impact of what was happening.

2+ years later and I agree completely.

Also met the voice actor at a con last year and he's the nicest guy ever

Honestly yeah he is. Which is very much on purpose. It goes places.

I have some criticisms of RDR2 but the character development of Arthur is so damn good. Such a great character.

This. Even as someone who things RDR2 is a gigantic misstep, I found Arthur to be a really endearing character and maybe Rockstars best as the game went on, but when you start out and for the first chunk of the game there after, I was just wishing I could have Marston back so Id have someone to give a shit about. He really shines the more time you have with him even if you dont like him right away.

I don't get the misstep opinion. I played all of them last year. After playing 2, the 1st seems like it wanted to be the 2nd but the technology wasn't there. Literally everything is better. The only thing that isn't depends on your patience. If you don't have the patience fir 2, then the pacing in 1 is better. But for me, 2 single handedly made me realize patience is worth it in games. Changed my whole perspective on what gamesI was gonna focus on moving forward.

One thing I do kinda hate and maybe I just need to get used to the flow of the game is that every. single. actiion. takes. time.

Like, picking things up, opening a door, looking at a book. It's a 3 second animation for every movement. I find that pretty annoying.

This might play into my opinion too. I completely embraced it as that. The main story is actually what I remember the least about my experience. I still remember parts, but it was mostly the exploring and just living in the world. People who can't give it props for the world they created can just have their opinions thrown away immediately, cause that's just objective.

Pro tip in case you want to play through multiple times: create a save file at the beginning of the second part. The snow level sucks.

This seems like good advice and I'm a bit late having done one or two small missions in chapter 2, but might make one now anyway.

That's fine. I think it's either the second or third chapter where you can start just doing whatever you want instead of following the story.
