Except I willingly and happily spent 100 hours playing that game, and it was a series I hadnt heard of and a complete blind buy.

Fallout 3 is basically Skyrim. A whatever story where you can go around and do whatever you want and have fun. And in the latter part Bethesda still are fantastic at it. It's just the rest they have been getting worse and worse at.

I did like 4's companions though

Anyway, I actually am not a huge fan of earlier fallout games. I do like them, but I prefer bioware crpgs from that era. I thought 3 was okay but nothing special. New Vegas was amazing. 4 was alright.

I loved Hardcore Mode in NV, I wish that was in 3.

I liked the Capital Wasteland map better than the New Vegas map just because DC was more ravaged and destroyed so it really felt like I had to go from rags to riches over the game, where in New Vegas a lot of stuff was still intact so I kinda felt fine from the getgo.

Even after the ending caused me to be so enraged at the game that it retroactively laid all its faults bare, FO3 still had value as a fun fuckabout wasteland sandbox, one which I continued to sink dozens of hours into wandering and finding exploits. And even then, it took me about a year to really appreciate NV and how well it fixed nearly every issue I had with FO3 (playing Dead Money for the first time was the turning point in which NV went from 'more of Fallout 3' to 'game of the decade' in my eyes).

Nowadays, FO3 has no value left; what few itches that aren't scratched by NV are now far more effectively scratched by FO4 (which are almost exclusively related to settlement-building and similar fuckabout-ery).

It's the opposite for me, I liked how NV's map was less urban than 3's (or at least what I saw of it). It's why I'm leaning towards buying/playing 76 before 4

Fallout 3/NV are two of the best games ever. Fallout 2 is great, too, but I prefer the other ones.

The entire library would be a good fit on the switch.

Oblivion still remains one of my favorite sandbox games for the sheer amount of fuckery and moddery you can do lol

the game is more hilarious than it is serious about anything.. great guild questlines too, better than Skyrim

never forget the times you spent hype for games, those are golden moments even if they lead to disappointment :P

What mods? I did like fo4 and like fo2 less than many, but I definitely don't think 4 is better than 2. And while I can't remember specifics for every game (so I might be wrong) the tension between humor and severity is just part of fallout generally ime

I like 3, but I won't pretend it's amazing. I've tried to go back and play it, and just can't get into it, whereas I can still go back and play NV (I have a save going now, actually) and an even older Bethesda game, Morrowind. I even liked Oblivion a ton, but I think it's a worse game than both Morrowind and Skyrim.

I got issues with the Bethesda Fallout games, but 3 and 4 were fun as hell. I do find it funny when people complain about some of the goofiness in 3 and 4 while forgetting how goofy 2 could be.

Got ya. Personally I got most of the way thru 1 and maybe 10 hours in 2 and just wasn't feeling them. NV for me is a top 3 RPG tho
