https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/comments/kd078f/aita_for_celebrating_my_anniversary_despite_what/

She put up a post on the anniversary and was bombarded by family and friends telling her to take it down because it was a sad day. Who is in the right here?

Nothing worse than the people that post on AITA

Reddit attracts a certain type of person who has no social grace but loves to dole out judgment as if theyre ordained by God himself. I just havent seen a more vindictive group of people with zero common sense. Someone HAS to be an asshole and we have to make swift judgment, especially if that means filling in the blanks with our own assumptions and prejudices and biases.

The child of a guest drowned at her wedding. She put up photos celebrating the anniversary on FB, with no reference or eulogy. The family was right to be outraged.

Fair, next.

My question is why did the parents of the child allow their kid out of their sight to go in the water?

My husband and I had our wedding last year. The venue was beautiful and bordered a lake. Unfortunately, during the reception, one of the young children snuck away from their parents and decided to...go for a swim, despite not being able to. This was tragic and devasting, and obviously cut the day short.

This woman is a psychopath.

but they are also demanding a second wedding. According to them, they've "kept their silence" for so long due to shock and being distracted by everything else going on this year, but they feel that "because of what happened" we aren't "really married" yet in the family.

Fake as fuck. I refuse to believe that anyone who doesn't have severe brain damage could read that and think "yeah, that sounds like something that happened!".

Ah yes AITA where you always seem to get topics like "I ran a stop sign and plowed through my neighbors kid, they're suing me for their kids medical bills. AITA for counter suing to fix the damage their kid did to my car?"

Why are people named "redditors" when they post something on reddit? When people post something on twitter are they called "twitterers"? It's like pretending that they are this exclusive group of people when it is just random people posting shit online. We are talking about 330 million active users....

Who said it was?

Your implication was that because the parents weren't watching their kid, the couple should be allowed to not acknowledge that a kid died at their wedding. The kid still died, regardless of whether the parents were shitty.

Yeah. Without reading this is what I am defaulting to. Some other context might change things a little,

Like if it was her sisters kid or something I would get it or but if it was the kid of her coworkers uninvited +1 or something I dont feel like you have go to special effort to eulogize them every anniversary.

They don't need to post pictures of that day and not even acknowledge the tragedy.

That would be like someone posting their honeymoon photos of the Twin Towers from the early hours of 9/11/2001.

Your special day was ruined. Oh well.

It's fucked up to have some expectation that these people spend their entire lives making somebody's death the focus of their anniversary instead of just being able to celebrate their relationship.

If its a real story, its definitely insensitive to be so blatant about it on the first year anniversary, but 2nd year on is fair game.

Ok so who said it was the kids fault?

Are you dense or do you just not understand how language works?

It's not the kid's fault, as in its not about the parents or their lack of parenting ability, its about the child who died. So saying because "someone didnt watch their kid so they drowned at a wedding" is moot.

Celebrate without photos of that specific location on that specific day. She's not an asshole for merely having an anniversary. That day is forever marred by tragedy. Sucks to suck

Celebrating is one thing, but don't do it when you're still friends with the child's family on FB without at least filtering the privacy first. Especially if you're showing pics.

Not an asshole, but definitely tone-deaf.

Are we still a dichotomous people electing for absolutism? Do the strict notions of right/wrong and good/evil still persist after watching the heroes and villains in childhood cartoons? Unless we want to create more divisiveness, why not simply acknowledge that the celebratory statement is tone-deaf and implore alternative messaging?
