Why? They are trying to make money by offering a product. Just know what they are trying to do and the hate should fade.

true, but its like pulling teeth to be extremely firm with them when I told them many times I want it today, I have this trade-in for $X and Im paying cash for the rest and want $Y off for Z reason, make it happen in 30 minutes or Im going to the next dealer.

this isn't a car salesman problem but buying a car is especially unpleasant because of the two step process
"oh i just had to negotiate with you for like 30 minutes while you went and pretended to talk to your manager 3 times to get all the stipulations on the trade in and purchase price AND NOW i get to bat down lame offers for extended warranties and other nonsense with the financing salesman guy!"

I think thats why car sale apps are so big now, it should be a straight forward experience but in reality it is so awkward and cumbersome

I walked away the moment the financing person asked me a second time if I wanted financing and the extra bs after explicitly stating I have cash for the otd price xyz sales manager agreed to, they came back but Im probably going to tell them to take a hike if the next one on my list is the one to buy.

I've had good experiences with them, but I've also learned to recognize the dumb tricks some dealerships try to play with you, too. The second someone tries to recommend me a different car and starts talking about it and offering a test drive without telling me the price, or they try to get me to fill out a form with all my information on it so they can "show you're serious before I try to negotiate with my supervisor", I nope the fuck out of there.

Good ones will be reasonable, you can point out some problems with the car, talk them down a little bit, get the processing fee removed from the sale price and go on your day.

Ngl, I spent more time at just one dealership yesterday than I did to go to two places to get a mortgage when I moved here. Theres a risk but Carvana does offer a return and will bring it to my house, but you just never know how the original owner was.

Or if they try to tell me the internet price is only valid if I print out and bring the listing in with me, especially if they're on the website themselves and can see the same exact thing I saw a couple hours prior. Fuck that.

The smaller family owned ones that source their cars through bigger distributors like Carmax are actually generally more legit from what I've seen. They cut corners with the test drive requirements and don't try to sweet talk you or waste your time.

I actually bought my last car through car max and it was easy. Talked to the dude once, test drove the car once, then i had it within an hour or so

When i bought my last car i went with my exes father who was a former car salesman.

He said hed talk to em and if he got up to leave just follow him.

When he didnt like them hed ask for their card and tell them hed call them if he wanted their advice. When i bought it he haggled this BS cost till they removed it.

They were like "well cut it in half" and when we stood up they removed it.
