the last two weeks before quitting? If I were to quit I'd want to use two weeks vacation for my two week notice. If I am lucky with the schedule maker I can get the two weeks vacation on short notice then put my two weeks in the day before my vacation starts. I'd want to do that due to needing to work at my new job ASAP but also because I don't want the pos at my work to get all nosy about my new job and I don't want those fake awkward moments of them pretending to care about me.

It depends on the situation, if you ask me. I think it can be shitty to do that if you're working for decent people, because the point is to give them a little time to prepare for you to be gone and if you're using vacation then you're not really doing that. But if the company has things set up to where you're just going to lose it rather than be paid out for at least a portion of your stocked up PTO then fuck them, take the vacation.

If you're quitting now, your two weeks will coincide with the holidays and they'll be extremely unlikely to approve the request.

If you're planning to leave later and this is just planning, there's nothing against it, but it is gauche and they don't have any reason to give a shit about honoring your time-off request. They also might use it against you in future times when you call on them to be references. If you're a right-to-work state, they can basically axe you immediately if they catch wind of it, with only flimsy retaliation laws to protect you.

You're putting the scheduling person into a weird position, too, because they're definitely going to be asked about it when you put your notice in.

It's fine, but I'm wondering - does your place not pay out your remaining PTO upon quitting/firing? Most corporate jobs pay out remaining vacation time.

Once you put in your two weeks, you're basically in free coasting mode, so you can basically do nothing during those two weeks and get paid out for it as well, so I wouldn't waste the PTO.

If they don't pay out the PTO, then it's fine. It's not your job to train new people.

If I time it right and predict when I'd get hired at my new job, get approved for two weeks vacation maybe 3-4 weeks before last day of two weeks notice then put in two weeks notice before first day of vacation then I dont think they should be mad at me. I would be on two vacation anyways and they'd expect me to be gone two weeks.

Helping to prepare for the next person to take over is considered "part of your job" in a lot of positions.

Are you really just looking for people to tell you that it's okay to fuck over the people you work with because you've already decided that you're going to do it? That's what it seems like now.

Yeah I get paid out for my vacation time I earned. I work for a big company so they could easily replace me and or not notice I am gone. I would work my last two weeks but I fucking hate the people I work with. All fake and they gossip like little school girls telling their butt buddy boyfriends about every little thing that happens and them spreading rumors. One person who finds something out would tell another person what happens then that other person would tell another person but a little different version then that 3rd person would tell other people and he'd have his own version of what was said.

Yeah fuck that then. Don't put in the PTO, just half-ass the rest of your time and get paid for the vacation time.

This. Although I did once work a really shitty job with shitty owners/management and when I quit there I just stopped showing up one day and didnt answer their phone calls.

You don't owe your job anything. You work. They give you money. At the end of the pay period youre square. Beyond that is brain washing.

I say this as someone in upper management at my place. I'd cut someone loose without a second thought. If I haven't kept you happy enough to stay and you're of value then that's my failing.

Most places would likely not approve taking leave during your final 2 weeks, just like they wouldn't put up with you calling in sick for those 2 weeks, because it pretty much defeats the entire purpose of giving your notice

Yep keep this in mind TC. If you have a good shot at planning this out, give yourself 4 weeks notice and then announce your resignation for the two before you leave.

Never trust ANY employer to honor your time off the moment you decide to "fuck them over" , because they're definitely going to strike first as if you did nothing for them during your tenure.

I wrote earlier there's a chance I might not pass probation in my potential new job for anything like them not needing me any more or maybe I gave a .5 second look at the wrong person and if I don't I pass probation I'd be screwed. I don't want to burn bridges. I don't know how much I'd get from unemployment or what's the chances of getting unemployment but I don't think it can beat $3k/month after all deductions. I would do my two weeks and work my usual hours but like I said I fucking hate most of my co workers. So if I quit but need to come back they'd definitely look at the two weeks notice. The absolute best case scenario for me would be work both jobs then once I pass probation then I get burn bridges and give them a big f u to my current employer...I probably won't do that but that's how I feel.

You're not really giving them two weeks notice if you do that. In my previous experience, two weeks notice means two weeks of getting fucked around, so I don't bother with it anymore, so if you're gonna do that, just do it. You haven't found the loophole here, you're just making things more complicated for yourself. And if you really hate the people you work with that much, they probably feel the same way about you and you won't get hired back there anyway. Either give them proper two weeks notice, or just go in one day with a box, pack up your stuff, shit on the boss' desk, and never look back.
