So I played 1 and 2 on the playstation 2 when they first came out, and recently played 0 and kiwami, going on to kiwami 2. How will 3-5 feel after kiwami? Are they super dated?

I know 6 is pretty modern and I assume 5 is close enough. So really, mostly curious about 3-4.

tbh 3-4-5-6 weren't that great

people really hyped the dragon engine but 6 had atrocious combat

3 is rough for sure and I found the story kinda weak, went in straight after Kiwami 2 and got halfway in then took a break for over a year before I went back to it, 4 is a definite improvement over 3 and helped by the fact that you have 4 different characters to play as instead of just Kiryu but obviously still doesnt feel as good as Kiwami 2

3 is the hardest to play of the bunch but the others are much better.

I played 6 this year and loved it. The gameplay was definitely downgraded but the story still had me sucked in the whole time. More than the last few. Probably cause it was more focused on the main show again. I like the other characters, but Kiryu was always the most interesting and I loved him having a whole game to himself again. Especially after having to force myself through that Haruka gameplay in 5. But aside from that, 5 obviously had way better combat and way more diverse gameplay.

The third game, at least with the cuts they made on the PS3 version, was really bad imo. But I played it after 4, so that might explain why.

I like 4 a lot, Akiyama and Taiga are great and it feels more natural to have each fighting style represented by a different person. Kiryu is cool, but Akiyama spices things up with a bit more sass and Taiga has an interesting, deep relationship with a character who feels kinda one-note with his characterisation at times. 4 is controversial to some, but I really enjoy it. Though again, it was my first full Yakuza game.

5 is pretty great, but I stopped playing it partway through chapter 3 because my controller died and I got a seriously shittier replacement. That replacement is on the way out, so I might get a better one and keep playing. I like the amount of content it has, though it's definitely a bit silly - one of the chapters makes use of a rhythm game instead of fighting anyone, for example.
