The northernmost areas have polar night as usual but the southern third has not had a single hour of the sun since November 27th-28th. Extremely overcast weather is to blame. The sun does not penetrate the thick dark clouds.

I always wondered, is that depressing because it makes you feel like staying inside? Like if you still go out and run and hang out with friends and stuff is it not that bad?

You feel tired all the same even if you sleep well all night. And even in a normal non-pandemic year our dark winters are tough to handle mentally even if you do fun stuff. But that stuff does help so not seeing friends because of covid makes it extra depressing.
