She must be crazy," and then you add each other on Facebook, and you realize she's a staunch Trump supporter, which is fine though a bit odd for someone in California, but not so since she's also Asian, so you let it pass, but then you notice the same dudes responding to all her posts while gradually losing interest over time, and you're like, "Oh no, she's a playa," all the while she's questioning you about the abundance of Taylor Swift posts on your profile and she's jokingly acting jelly while still maintaining flirtatiousness and you manage to explain that TSwift very recently released a new album, which is true and she accepts, but then she scrolls all the way back to May when you beat Final Fantasy VII for the first time and she notices the possibly alarming amount of praise and adoration for Tifa and she questions if Tifa is your waifu, which you are forced to outright deny immediately because that's probably the right move?

Yeah, that never happens to me. Absolutely has not happened at all, especially this year on this particular weekend.

Also, her birthday is next weekend.

Thanks, Jimbo... is what I would say if I found myself in such a situation, which I am most definitely not! She wears her mask though and hasn't said/posted any conspiracy theories. Only expressing some sadness that Trump lost.

Although that was my early 20s and I tended to go for the girls that had issues and needed to get their lives together because I was in that boat and related to them. The best thing about being married is not dealing with the single life dating stuff. Ugh. I don't think most general concepts would be an outright dealbreaker if we always enjoyed each other's company. My definite dealbreaker? I am so NOT down for butt stuff ever that if a girl was requiring butt stuff, I would run for the hills. Poo and farts are gross. Hard pass.

If this potential date was a Trump supporter, it would depend to what extent... If they were just like "I hate political correctness and the DNC" and that was about it, we're good. If they were like "muh freedom to do whatever selfish thing I want! covid is a hoax! Imma wear a tanktop to my court hearing!" then I couldn't do it. A bridge too far. Equally unappealing to butt stuff. Really, anyone that could be labelled "an activist" isn't somebody that I'd mesh well with.

My wife only knew me for about two weeks when we went out for my birthday. She was super sweet and I didn't expect anything, but she had been giving me shit for admitting I was a pop drinker so she brought me a 6 pack of tiny little coke cans. Cost almost nothing, but it was really nice that she thought to do something.

Keep it simple I'd say and if you can relate it back to anything that you guys talked about that'd be perfect.

That actually worked out perfectly. Got her some swedish fish and prune juice.

Now we got other problems. I'm not sure if they're big red flags, but they raised some concerns.

She seems to have some image of the person she wants already and is trying to mold me to be that person.

Like she doesn't like that I play video games. She didn't outright say it, other than saying she doesn't want me to play too much. But that's based on her own non-gamer experience (I play substantially less than I used to). I mean, she spends hours watching crime videos on YouTube. I can't do something so passive, and it's hard to explain the appeal and stimulation video games provide to non-gamers. Also, every video game is complicated to non-gamers. It's really bizarre how games all got that way.

She also criticizes how I drive, because I drive the speed limit. I don't understand the obsession with speeding. Unless you're driving several hundred miles, the time you "save" is miniscule. Also, if I miss a turn or something, I continue on the wrong route until we're back on track. I don't suddenly change lanes and force the turn and freakout anyone behind me (which allegedly causes additional time delay, but it's not like we were on some kind of schedule).

I'm clearly more of a planner than she is because despite it being a great first date, it was a nightmare to arrange with her input. She only thinks about a problem once it's arised.

I made a joke about just shaving my head if my hair gets too long and the barber shops never opens again, but she absolutely rejected that idea, said my hair was long already (it's not), and to cut it short.

I think the worse problem is she doesn't like Batman Begins. I went on a company trip to Tahoe a few years ago, and during the 3 hour trip, I gave a verbal retelling of Batman Begins. Everyone in the car enjoyed it and asked for The Dark Knight on the drive back. She thought it was ridiculous that I did it at all.

She seems to think all the things I like are childish and is making a small effort to pull me from those things. But maybe I'm crazy.

I think she's gotten too comfortable with me, because I'm wondering if she's borderline racist based on some things she's said. She seems like a pessimist masquerading as an optimist. But maybe I'm remembering too many of her hateful comments. It's probably all the crime shows she keeps watching, but she seems to think police are genuinely all stupid and have a vast amount of resources and intel. Even the fictional victims. Gotta suspend that disbelief more.

Anywho, she seems to like that I talk a lot and that I respond to everything she says in English (she speaks Vietnamese and English to me). I'm sure the novelty of that will wear off soon enough. I don't even notice it until she points it out.

Anywho, next date is set up. We're getting burritos. She rejected the idea of them on the first date because she doesn't like them. But she said she wanted to get me lunch since I got her gifts for her birthday and that's what I picked. If she still doesn't like them, I think we'll have an answer. I'm even doing California burritos to make it more appealing.

Well everyone has a certain image of who they want and finding the perfect person is near impossible.

So it is likely that we all want to somewhat mold our likely significant others, in fact if they do become that we mold each other without realizing it when we pick up each others habits.

If we taking the gaming thing for instance, it may be possible she is used to guys that ignore her (because they are gaming) or dont give her the amount of attention she wants, so the idea of dating a gamer is off-putting for that reason.

I don't think I do, but maybe you're right. I don't think about the occupation, education, political leanings, or hobbies a person would have. It seems really weird to do that when I don't do that with any other relationship I have.

I think it's more fun and interesting to learn why someone is into the things they are than to ouright reject it.
