I don't play traditional fighting games really, this is my first one I'm trying to put a lot of time into

Learn the specials. practice to learn good juggling combos, master using assists to keep comhos going

Should probably watch videos as it's hard to give advice without really knowing your skill level and specifically what you need help with.

I guess as a general advice just learn some basic combos first. A decent chunk of the cast can get by with some variant of this combo:

st.LL > cr.M > st.M > jump > MLL > down+H > super dash > MLL > down + H > double jump > LLL > super

Learn basic universal combos like that one^. Works on most characters but some have different properties on their jumping down heavy.

Your crouching heavy (2H) is the universal antiair and beats jumping normals and superdash very cleanly.

Some moves you can only block crouching(low) or standing(high/overhead). General rule of thumb is that lows are fast enough as to be unreactable. So you default to blocking low and react to blocking highs. Hit is a notable exception to this because he has a ton of overheads and his only low is the slowest low in the game.

Forward Medium (6M) is the universal overhead. You cannot combo off it without an assist however, or sparking but dont worry about that.

Learn what moves unsafe on whiff/block and be careful using those

I have a question about Adult Gohan, how does his "Awakened Potential" move work? You can either use up one bar or consume every bar of Ki you have, but it's not clear to me what the difference is.
