Its probably why ebay has an insurance policy if yoi get scammed. Evay back in the 90s was terrible. I told the bank and the local police, though the purchases were delivered to another state Never heard back from the cops. But the bank refunded my money. If you're worried that a ebay/amazon seller sticking you with a "buyers false claim" will have the police after you, I don't think they usually involve police. They usually work through ebay/amazon policy. Filing a report to police may be the worst thing a seller can do if a buyer buys their item and the buyer scams the money back.
