When it comes to pet owners, some may have certain rules about where in the house the animals are allowed.

For example, it's common for pets to be banned from bedrooms.

However if you've got a rule like this in place, you might want to rethink your position as the results of a new study have highlighted some interesting benefits of having dogs in your room - or more specifically, in your bed.

According to a resurfaced study by researchers at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, letting your dog sleep in your bed with you is actually a good thing and can help you get a better night's sleep.

Christy L. Hoffman, PhD, surveyed 962 women in America, asking them all about their sleeping habits.
Her findings showed that 57 percent of the women shared their bed with another human, 55 percent with a dog and 31 percent slept with a cat on their bed.

Those who slept alongside their pampered pooch were found to be more likely to have a more restful night's sleep than the others, as dogs' sleep patterns closely coincide with human ones.

The study also highlighted that those who shared a bed with their pup were more likely to go to bed earlier and get up earlier as well.

The researchers explained: "Compared with human bed partners, dogs who slept in the owner's bed were perceived to disturb sleep less and were associated with stronger feelings of comfort and security."
Great news for dog owners - but not for those with cats.

The findings showed that cats are just as disruptive in bed as human partners.

The feline friends were also found to be "associated with weaker feelings of comfort and security than both humans and dog bed partners".

This comes after we shared the news that West Midlands Police are on the hunt for volunteers to foster puppies from their development programme.

The police force currently runs one of the most successful breeding programmes in the country, aiming to produce more than 100 puppies per year. The puppies stay with their mum until they are eight weeks old, then are fostered until they're 14 months.

Cats hiss and try to scratch you if you try to change positions while sleeping. Dogs are cool if you move around.
I dunno

Plenty of dogs just lie there like logs.

And then if you physically move them then are like "Why did you do that to me!" >:o

My first cat tried sleeping in my bed and was rewarded by the crushing power of my amazing legs. She never tried it again. She also never tried eating unattended ham sandwiches again but I don't know if that was related.

No they don't. They just get uppity and leave if you dare to disturb them just to get comfortable.

My chocolate lab used to sleep in bed with me. Then I moved in with my fiancee. Now he only hops up in the mornings to lie between us like the dog in the OP.

My dog cuddles up on me every night, and I'll say I sleep very well. In the morning she crawls over me to the other side and cuddles in that side to let me know it's time to wake up, but she's a patient beast.

I used to have a Yorkey and he hogged half of the bed. He also would always wake me up around 5 to go outside. After that I'd go back to sleep until it was time to get up for school.
