So what are we suppose to take away from this? Is it just a simple "politician is hypocrite" story?

Despite the headline the focus of the story is more about the use of controlled substances and the violation of pandemic restrictions than it is about his sexuality or his stance on policies. When it does mention these things it says he "opposes equal rights" and "voiced strong opposition to a gender equality plan" which are statements that are quite open to interpretation.

A man at gay orgy opposes LGBTQ+. Maybe he doesn't approve of how the collective represents his particular subset.
Equal rights could instead be one sided legislation under the guise of equality.
A gender equality plan sounds directed at a different subset of the collective which doesn't pertain to him.
Further the plan could be padded with other things since these rarely do exactly what it says in the name.

Thats so bizarre. Hard to even imagine living like that. The weird thing is that for the most part gay people are totally accepted by most folks nowadays, so they can just be gay openly. They dont need to hide it. Even a lot of churches are chilling out about it.

True. Though, many still dont. Like sometimes, people are accepting of gay people. But only people who they dont know. But its different with friends or family. Sometimes, its different with immediate and extended family...

Then some people just dont care. And while some people are accepting, they can make gay jokes, which then make people think they arent accepting...

I do in part, but I also feel that it's tremendously sad how far in the closet some people feel they must live their lives, and I hope to live to see the day when these self-hating people can feel comfortable living in their own skin, free from judgment or ridicule or violence

I think Newsweek framed the story poorly. Based on the information in the article we don't know his stance on pandemic restrictions so it may be in character for him to break them. Likewise we don't know the specific legislation that was mentioned or his reasons for opposing it. We're not given enough information to say that he isn't open about his sexuality.

Drawing information from outside resources has nothing to to do with how Newsweek presented information in their article. Even if I were familiar Hungarian politics I could still look at the article and conclude the way it was written was not informative.

I suppose the other guy isn't wrong because most readers would fall in this camp, especially US ones. Not only is the media super biased over there it's also very insular. You don't really get stories outside US unless its about UK or Canada. I already knew the Hungary situation because BBC covered it multiple times. Not like super deep knowledge since I don't live there, but the basics of the right wing lurch (along with Poland) and clashing with the EU. They signed up for this thing and want all the benefits without buying into the values. Ironically Poland is very anti-gay and anti immigration but they were the main cause of Brexit with their flood of immigrants taking up jobs etc.

So when this story broke (it was already covered on Politics board) it was of no surprise to me this clown was Hungarian. He deliberately started an entire political party on an anti-gay platform while not just being gay, but super slutty with it too.
