The "let them leave" mentality seems to ignore the high number of minorities who would be guaranteed to face the worst consequences of secession. We'd see Christian Sharia in some places. Lots of innocent people would suffer while the people who should be held accountable remain unscathed.

In reality if it happened several counties would resist and Texas would be forced to give up land in order to do it. This is essentially a fantasy that's not really worth discussing but "let them leave" isn't really the awful scenario that people caution of. The southern parts of texas would become incorporated into Mexico and some other places would resist secession and become new states in the USA.

Essentially Texas would shrink and most people hurt by it are the ones that asked for it.

Should be noted not even the Texas constitution says we're allowed to secede, even though this shithead cites it as if it does. It only gives us the ability to rebuild or abolish our state government.

As a bi man currently forced to live in Texas, I find it important to note the state still has an anti-sodomy law on the books. The only thing keeping them from enforcing it is the SCOTUS ruling it unconstitutional not even two decades ago.
If we were allowed to secede, that statute would no longer apply, and I and many others like me would be in jail, if not outright executed, simply for being who we are.

Those people can leave the state. Or better yet, arm themselves and hold those people accountable.

I know eastern WA/OR wants to split off into Liberty because both eastern parts of the states are very red. I also know BC/WA/OR has the whole Cascadia thing.

And what would their resistance be met with? It wouldn't be peace, understanding, and compromise because the Texas GOP does not understand that and wouldn't give a flying fuck if they could. That would be especially true of any GOP power that could actually get it done. They already push the boundaries and get away with so much. There's no way a Texas secession is anything other than a terrible scenario.

It's also not just about Texas but how the entire South is treated. It says quite a bit about how people see things if vulnerable populations are treated as an afterthought in these discussions, even if it just speculation and fantasy.

Same. Encouraging secession, even if it's just to mock dumb conservative fantasy, doesn't really do much for my confidence in how people perceive these states and our situations.

Easier said than done and I'm not sure creating a refugee situation is the solution you think it would be.

From wikipedia
It was founded in 2015 by Louis J. Marinelli, a New Yorker living in Russia, and its efforts have been supported by the Russian government

As of 2016, the campaign president was Louis J. Marinelli, a New Yorker living in Russia.[3][13]The vice president (as of 2016) is Marcus Ruiz Evans.[14] Both men are former Republicans[15] and Marinelli says he voted for Donald Trump.
