I have compressed nerves in my neck and back of my head that we normally treat with radiofrequency ablation. Normally it lasts 6-9 months. Its now wearing off and Ive been in extreme pain. Ive been icing my neck all day for days now. Unfortunately we cant do our usual treatment because I cant be under x-ray now. So he said he is writing me a note to take 2 weeks off because he thinks sitting at my desk all day is making it worse.

Thing is were also shut down during the holiday break. Which means Ill be off until early January. Just taking tomorrow to wrap up my stuff and hand it over to another team member. Then Ill be out for almost a month. Doc hopes that time away from my desk plus exercises/stretches/relaxation will help things improve.

It will be a slight pay cut for about a week (holiday break is paid) but worth the time off. Im excited!

I dunno. Things Ive been wanting to do, like organize the house before baby gets here, require too much physical activity and will defeat the purpose of resting. I plan on doing daily yoga and stretching exercises to help the pain. Maybe Ill game on the couch or in bed. My husband also set up WoW for me to play in bed. I have a motorized Casper mattress so I can prop myself up comfortably and we have a TV in the room Im using so I dont have a heavy laptop on me.

Im not a huge PC gamer and as mentioned above figured out a more comfortable set up for WoW.

Sometimes I purposely don't check email on vacation just to see how many will pile up when I get back.
If it's important, they've got my phone number.

Ugh Id have a panic attack looking at hundreds of new emails like that.

Luckily I spent all day yesterday making sure everything was in a good place so my manager has little to do while filling in for me. So Im hoping it wont be too bad.

I really hope you get to enjoy the time off and really recover, compressed nerves sound terrifying.

Yes both in email and slack but Im a control freak and like knowing everything is going well. My doc tells me this is why I aggravate my nerves because he thinks Im a type A that cant let go of things... I guess he isnt wrong lol

Thanks! It basically feels like Im being stabbed with a hot poker at my neck. Shit sucks. But when we laser the nerves down I feel much better. Been doing that for a couple of years now. Sucks that I cant. Im going to try stretches and yoga and shit to feel better.

Yes Im grateful. I actually have enough sick time to cover it all without taking disability so its nice that its a fully paid 3 week break.

Its not the best tbh. 8 paid weeks provided by the company. I can also take FMLA for 12 weeks but can do disability pay during at 80% (using my disability insurance I pay for). I can also take off work 2 weeks before due date. So about 22 weeks in total.

Imagine trying to control the amount of time an employee can get sick

Never change, USA

Also, here you get both maternal and paternal leave for a total of three years that you have to take within the first 8 years of the child's life

Yeah thats the one thing about Canada I miss. One year of paid maternity leave. But then I think I might go crazy at home for a year. My husband and I plan to stagger our leaves so he will take his after mine so at least baby will have us the first year. Then well probably look into nannys.

Actually make that two things I miss about Canada. Cheaper childcare. Its fucking crazy out here. Especially in California. Its more than most people make in a year.

Thank you! I hope so too. I feel so guilty I havent even been able to put up my Christmas tree this year but just completely unable to and it sucks. Im hoping Ill feel better after a few days away from my desk and the stress of work. Shit was getting crazy as all my teams wanted their roles filled by end of year and its been nonstop for weeks.

Finally actually started my leave! Spent over 3 hours on my performance review. Then had to put in my reviews of other coworkers.

Then had a call with our former VP who wanted to catch up with me. Shes at a big tech company in the Bay Area and sure enough it was to tell me shes planning out building her team in 2021 and if I ever came back from my maternity leave and wasnt feeling my company anymore, to give her a call first. Ngl they offer big money so I absolutely plan on calling her lol. I love my current company but I also love money.
