https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/cyberpunk-2077-review/1900-6417622/
That's emblematic of the world of Cyberpunk 2077. It is so full of things to buy, to do, to see, and yet so much of it doesn't feel essential. Night City is massive, and while you can fast travel from specific points, you'll often need to walk or drive a bit to your destination. I started to compare prices from one ripperdoc to the next--they're how you upgrade your oh-so expensive cyberware--but stopped after the third because I didn't want to drag myself across the city all day. I went clothing shopping only once for the same reason, and I'd managed to loot more than one cute outfit off of corpses anyway. There's even an entire crafting and item upgrade menu that I never actually needed to use, given that I was regularly looting better gear and items off my numerous enemies; at least in my playthrough, I had no reason to engage with these systems at all.

This. The fact that three of eight HMs relate to water is way overkill.

With water routes you basically know you'll only be fighting water Pokemon, both wild and trainers. I know I tried to get through water routes as fast as possible as a kid in the first 4 gens.

The problem with Hoenn is that all the water is in the same place. You spend the back quarter of the game surfing or diving, basically, and a bunch of stuff you can only access with surf/dive/waterfall opens up at the exact same time. So it winds up feeling like even more water than it is.

and screw everyone, diving was a fun mechanic. >_>

as for this review, I can *sort* of see what they were going for? Mechanics are outclassed by loot, leading to them feeling like a waste of time? Still, I dont know if I would count that as a strict negative. Tons of games have feature bloat and nobody complains as long as the core experience is still good.

I think the fanboys are really happy with the reviews. It's at 91 on MC with 44 positive reviews and only 2 mixed reviews. The 2 mixed reviews definitely focused more on social issues than the actual game.

No. It was mostly focused a lot of the game didn't matter or have much consequence. Which is why she never bothered with the crafting system.

The shooting looks pretty janky so that was probably to the games benefit that she played more using stealth and hacking. I will mostly avoid shooting when I play as well.

That just makes the problem worse. The last quarter of the game as well as most of the optional areas that open up late is dominated by water routes. Water routes are generally less interesting to begin with because they tend to always look the same, have fewer options for interesting terrain to explore (they have currents sometimes but that's about it) and are notorious for being the most repetitive in terms of what Pokemon you encounter, both wild and from trainers. The fact that you spend so much time in the late game in the blandest type of route where you often just are moving down an empty blue path with nothing of note gets real old real fast.

The land was varied. You had mountains, forest and some plains. On the other hand about 1/3 of the games are water, water, and more water.

and every gen has an abundance of water types except for gen 5

You say that like it's supposed to make it less of an issue, it doesn't.
