As a general rule, the people that are a part of them are mostly negative. It seems like(mostly) the only people who seek out groups of other fans just want to bitch. People that enjoy everything about them tend to not need reinforcement on their opinions. I mean, I don't think the sequels were great, but they weren't awful. They were popcorn flicks. I mean, a stupid vision is still a vision (although its worth adding that the ST had most of Lucas's ideas for a sequel trilogy, without some of the stupid things like magic force ghosts everywhere that control the world), and I would have liked a sequel trilogy that stuck to the plan instead of throwing everything away after fan backlash for a soulless cash grab. You can love some percentage of a franchise and hate all the rest of it for being different. It might seem odd, but that's the nature of art. Some people will like it all, some will only like the Original Trilogy, some will hate the prequels; some will love them... Some will think the books should be burned, others will say they're better than the movies...etc. etc. Point being, it's okay to love or hate things even if you feel the opposite way about another part of the same franchise --- I write Naruto Fanfiction.
