At least 4 houses to my left and at least 5 houses to my right (the people who I actually know and talk) all had thanksgiving with extended family. Both my immediate neighbors had people fly in from other states.

If you think covid is bad now and was bad in april....wait til you see what happens in about 3 weeks.

just watch them all have big Xmas dinner while one of the people who joined them for thanksgiving is dying or being buried.

Neighbors who had extended family come from multiple states invited us over as well. We said no both because we really wanted to do our own thing with our small family (wife, me, 1 year old) and because of covid, but our excuse we gave them was just covid. They were legit confused at how that was a valid reason.

Yeah most people are incredibly stupid. I now think of myself way too highly just for following basic covid precautions. I feel like I must be some sort of genius for understanding risk assessment when the vast majority seem to give it no consideration.

Covid has really made me hate other people and this country as a whole.

At this point it's almost becoming worn out to react as that effort can be more invested into what you plan on doing for yourself going forward. When you think about it, no one at that stage has that fully figured out. My workplace/company is split, not just in perspective but effort is also mixed. I've accepted the reality it's just two things: people are afraid to make a based decision over the inconveniencies in their livelihood, or they're just too incompetent in being able to evaluate things.

I've literally had this conversation with my neighbhors. Here in the south they are all trumpers. They all genuinely believe its always blown out of proportion by the media and they all genuinely believe bill gates is up to no good. One of em mentioned the other day that Bill Gates had a suspicious talk about the possibility of a pandemic caused by a virus just a month before this broke out. And they said companies started working on vaccines in january. They put those 2 together and think this is driven by pharmaceuticals to make money.

I talk to these guys regularly, they don't say it blatantly but after an in depth conversation their inner thoughts start coming out and you can really notice how fucking stupid people are. Its impossible to tell with just superficial conversation. These are functioning people in society, engineers, first responders, small business owners. They are all fucked up Trumpers.

Anyone who brings up the name Bill Gates in a conversation about covid vaccines is fucking stupid.

If I told you the stove is hot, it could be hot or it can't. You can consider both outcomes, but which consequence is more concerning if you touch it?

In a given instance, a person may get the virus or they won't. Say everything you want about the odds and possibilities, but it's pretty silly to set the terms at waiting until they're in the emergency room with lacking accommodation. I mean go right ahead. If it's consequences that person will own and let's be honest, in today's dumbass society most people don't own up to anything that doesn't justify imposing that position on everyone else. And of course that can go both ways: no one can really make someone else wear a mask or not travel. One person is playing it safe; the other is acting out of fear in the guise of denial, and self-interest.

That's really the problem. The facts ("facts") can go against either side, but regardless: at this point it takes a real Flat Earther to outright deny the weight of this virus running without an established vaccine. There's this flawed logic revolving around the odds/risk, and lacking thought to if/when it does strike as reality. It seems people will only turn heel one they personally know someone who (or themselves) has a severe case, or dies. Pretty pathetic to wait until that point. Imagine basing all your decisions with that mode of thinking.
