First time shiny hunting and going for a shiny Torchic in Omega Ruby via soft resetting. Been doing it since yesterday at 1:00pm - 3:00am and now since 12:00pm - now.

Its really dawned on me that this could take days or even weeks, possibly even months.

I can get more shinies in a day on PoGo than I've ever gotten since I started playing Pokemon Yellow.

Maybe create a second player account and take turns shiny hunting? I think each account will get a difference hash so alternate luck.

Shinies have become such a meme now though -- chaining, battles fought, shiny charm, masuda method, dynamax adventures literally give you a 1/100 chance at getting a shiny (rolled up to 4 times depending on if you win the adventure), one of which is literally a legendary.

maybe on a community day. i have seen a shiny maybe once every 3-4 days if i'm lucky while playing 3 hours a day before the pandemic.

What I meant is most gaming systems let more than 1 player access a cartridge. So have 2 different player accounts and alternate. You say that you are starting over? So.

I have more than one Pokemon Go account and for hunting a particular speciment one of the accounts will keep getting shinies. I thought it may be a timestamp or some data in the account itself that is looked at by the algorithm. Either way. Switching accounts when you get bummed out can give you a new head of steam.

My bf is obsessed with shinies and primarily hunts full odds in third gen. I have no idea where he gets the patience for it, but he loves it. He just got a shiny Latios last weekend.

I've only ever had two Shinies.

A Goldeen in Crystal when I was a wee lad that I didn't know was Shiny and which I killed (at the time they just spawned with a a circle of stars and my child brain couldn't see it was a slightly different color)

and an Eevee I accidentally bred in a copy of Pokemon X that I lost.

I feel like this is false; you should always have a million ultra balls in the event of a random (or intentional) shiny.

The master ball is for a shiny that can kill itself or flee, a la roaming dogs in GSC or latias/latios or whatever (i.e. when it dies, it's dead for good)

(or Abra or something with Explosion or Roar/Whirlwind)

A rayquaza, albeit with low odds to catch and low odds to make shiny (soft resetting takes forever), cannot kill itself until it gets down to Struggle.

Or use a Breloom with spore and false swipe. Use one with poison heal ability and make sure it's poisoned then give it leftovers and it will never need to be healed.

Like others said, shinies really don't have the same WOW factor they used to. Pokemon Go hands then out like candy to the point you can end up with double digits of them on Community Day.

Even beyond that, the odds are still high enough that you run into them on a semi regular basis of you play the game actively. Just anecdotally, I've played every Gen of pogeymanz, and I've encountered 2 shinies total across like 25 years.
In Pokemon Go? I have over 40 species with shiny versions from just 4 years of playing, and that's not including like dozens of duplicates lol.

The fact you can transfer then onto the mainline games now with Home absolutely broke the shiny game mechanic wide open lol.
