With dlcs you can recruit old mcs, but you travel to their netherworld to do it and its unrelated to the main game. --- ........the ghost in the machine... You can recruit characters from the other games but they are more like little cameos and are usually post game. I played 5 first and it just feels... bad going backwards. Kinda like going back to Persona 3/4 after playing 5, but to a more extreme degree.
