Don't care for most slashers or haunted house or possession flicks and that's all Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and Tubi seem to have.

Maybe. I've seen a few things like this recently (Hostel 3, The Helpers, Scarehouse) and I liked the Cube series though I doubt those are too similar. Haven't seen *too* many moves in the genre overall though so maybe you're right.

That turned out to be a pretty good movie, only shitty part is that (please don't click if you plan on watching it at all) - I basically had it spoiled by the damned description of the movie on Tubi... Really ruined one of the most important aspects of the film.

Watching 1BR now just because I saw it yesterday and added it to the list.

@billcom6 I think the issue is just the selection on these streaming services, it's all mainstream or low budget wannabe mainstream stuff. I also need to jump from Shudder Add-On to Prime and get independent Shudder at some point. And maybe that Troma subscription.

Did add some stuff to my list on Prime tonight -
  1. Original Halloween (never saw it, only the Rob Zombie remake)
  2. Santa Jaws
  3. Llamageddon
  4. Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter
  5. The Dinner Party
  6. Demonoid
  7. Hack-o-Lantern
  8. Fright Night
  9. The Stuff

@Yazarogi Normally not big on Cage films but I loved Mandy and apparently this 8MM came out in 1999 so I'm curious, added that to my list!

edit: Maybe I won't watch 1Br. My fire stick really hates the Netflix app...

If you aren't a big fan of low-budget wannabe mainstream stuff, Shudder probably isn't for you. There's definitely some great stuff on it, but that's pretty much what it falls under. Also the shudder add-on for Prime and independent Shudder should be the same thing, there's no need to get both.

There's a lot of Hammer Horror or Dario Argento style movies, and there's only a handful of really good stuff that doesn't fall into "cheap B-Movie" category. A bunch of fun foreign stuff too, if you don't mind subtitles.

In the case of 40 year old B-movies, how about "Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter"

At least a year or two ago there were some content differences between the add-on and the independent service, and a one quarter difference in price (alright, not so concerned about that lol).

Really don't mind subtitles since I do most of my viewing at night with subtitles anyway.

1BR was kinda cool, but something about it did feel a little off.

Thought the ending was kinda hokey. I could imagine one other building being operated by this community but not the whole friggin' block. And why did she run *towards* all the alarms when the street behind her was clear...

Actually the more I think about it the more I think 1BR sucked lol. It never really went deep on anything, and that's a disservice to cults and secretive societies like this and how they operate. Even the branding scene was like two seconds and then ok lol she's branded... when you hear about the NXIVM cult and the stories about the branding it is so much more terrifying.

@thronedfire2 is it *that* good? Sounds like a plot from a Twilight Zone episode.

I actually watched Hack O Lantern pretty recently too.

I think one reason I am not burned out is I like all genres and eras of horror for the most part. So I can get excited about a new Hollywood release as well as a shitty movie from 1983 that I came across on Prime.

lmao yeah I went with a random ass name on letterboxd so I don't blame you, plus the social aspect of it isn't as well fleshed out as I would have hoped.

Hack O Lantern was friggin' weird, with its inclusions of satanism stereotypes about clothing and heavy metal, full length music video interlude, the stand up comedy routine, the creepy ass grandpa that wants to bone everyone. I was a little disappointed there was no hacking or o'lanterning though.

I usually also don't mind newer releases, but then I see stuff like Dark Encounter and I just wonder why the hell.

Highly recommend watching Creep and Creep 2, both should be on Netflix.

Dont read anything about them, best going in fresh, ESPECIALLY anything about the second one. The premise of the second one entirely ruins the ending of the first, so dont even read the movie description (until you finish the first).

Theyre black comedy horror/thriller films, with a fantastic lead played by Mark Duplass.

I always suggest these whenever I see a horror thread so apologies if youve already seen this recommendation by me lol
