Keep in mind the 37 year old was 18 when the 19 year old was born

I'd say it's not necessarily weird but probably more likely to be.

I remember when I was an early teen around 13-15 one of our friend's uncle who was like 35 hung out with us. That was weird.

If they're talking fishing or involved in sports it could be ok, but socializing in the same circles seems kind of strange. I don't have (or want) enough information to make a serious judgement on the situation though.

Even if it was sexual, a 19 year old is an adult and free to make his/her own decisions about who s/he wants to be around.

But they are not hanging out when one is a litteral kid. Sure at 19, you are not very mature, but you can hang out with people older than you if you want. I hate when people say that. I met my boyfriend when I was 29 and he was 20. If a 19 dated someone 9 year younger, I'd be the first one to call the police.

This was my thought too. At least in that situation you know what they're after, but as a 38 year old myself I can't imagine just casually hanging out with a 19-year-old

Used to work fast food, and it was not unusual for managers to invite their 17 or 18 y.o workers over to hang out, usually to play poker, no hot tub stuff.

Lol this wasn't a thing when I worked at McDonald's (also, not like the managers are older than the general crew in my experience)

I'm trying to think. The oldest people I consider friends are exactly a decade older than I am, but we've been friends since I was 24 and he was 34. We started at the same organization on the same day.

I was going to say it's probably normal until you mentioned the hot tub. I started coming here when I was 18 and made all kinds of older friends, but yeah, it never went that far. At the same time they are both of legal age so it's also none of your business in a way unless you suspect something toxic is going on

There are 37 year olds who are starting college for the first time. Then again I suppose you could call those people more stunted than the average person but that's not very acceptable as time goes on.

Not really if they met somewhere or doing something that involves a shared interest. For example, I play mtg (or would, if stores were still open) weekly and I've made friends that are 20, 30 years older than me. See 'em every week, have a great time playing cards with them.

I don't think it's weird if you're adults, going out, doing things with and meeting new other adults.

It's a little weird. I'd say 22-23 is around the time age gaps like this stop becoming weird because that's around the time people who started college at 18 graduate. At 19 you're still a teenager and you're only a year removed from high school. It's okay to be casually friends with people in their 30s, maybe if you met in an online game or something, but I'd be weirded out if they were like best friends.
