By Christmas, I basically mean November and December. Of course, Christmas Day is often great, and Christmas Week is a LOT of fun, but I like the whole period. It's so nice. All the decorations, shops staying open late in Britain, snow, people wearing Christmas outfits. And of course, all the stuff that happens in late December, such as seeing family, eating chocolate, catching the films they often show at Christmas, and so on. This board is notoriously cynical about Christmas. All those people that think an adult isn't allowed to enjoyed the Christas period, or birthdays for that matter. How do you feel about Christmas? Do you still enjoy it? What do you do? Do you live in an area that tends to get snow, or not?

It was always a magical and happy time of the year for me when I was a kid, but now that I am older, it's not that magical anymore unfortunately. I think the stresses of work, finances, and life in general sort of help sour the experience. It stinks.

currently? because its a bullshit holiday designed to make companies more money.
its original intent? it was originally thought up as a way to wrap up a bunch of pagan holidays together in a nice bundle to let the missionaries steamroll over heathen religions. and sadly, it means that much of the history and mythology of said religions has been lost, thanks to said missionaries. only reason i 'celebrate' it is because its a halfway decent time to talk to family i spend most of the year ignoring. --- Taarsidath-an halsaam. I still love it, though. But I can totally get how others can hate it. That being said, 4th of July and Thanksgiving are the real GOAT holidays, and as someone that grew up in Southern Illinois and went to loads of Juneteenth barbecues, I have extremely fond memories of that holiday as well. --- Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less. ... It's not hard to see why people might not like it. Depending on the kind of household you grew up in, Christmas could come with a lot of bad memories.

I like it but it's not hard to see why other people don't. You and I have few to no obligations or responsibilities to other people. But many people have families they are responsible for and seeing your family isn't always fun. For some people the holidays mean they get to take time off to stress themselves out over other things.

I love Christmas time. It was always a big deal in my family growing up. Decorations, music, movies, family, food, presents, all that good shit. And I still love this time of year. Luckily, my wife loves Christmas time too. So our house is very Christmasy starting November.

Every Christmas my old man would put on the Santa costume and drink all day. Then he'd grab a bottle and chuck it at my head. One year he missed and I chuckled out of fear, so he grabbed a log out of the fireplace. It still had some cinders on it. On top of the broken bones, I had some scorch marks. I had burn marks along some of the breaks. Took about two years to fully heal. He never saw a single charge against him, of course. It was all quieted thanks to his connections.
