Watching PS5 coverage of Demons Souls got me finally wanting to try these out.

I'm awful at games, just grabbed Dark Souls Remastered for PC.
Almost got killed by a giant gluttony thing while reading message in a small room, off to a good start.

Beat the gluttony thing (asylum guard?) without dying.
I will now carry a sense of overconfidence with me that I'm sure will in no way be quickly dashed by the game.

Boulder coming down a stairwell did give me a near heartattack though.

What did you take as your starting gift? One of them (black firebombs) trivializes the asylum demon, but beating it first try without that is a decent accomplishment.

Took the master key and started as a pyromancer, but now that I'm typing that out I realized I haven't figured out how to throw fireballs yet.

Hit him from above and then just rolled around a lot while freaking the F out swinging my axe at him. Panic in the face of adversity will work out well in this game, right?

Good to know my 'that sounds coolest' choices weren't awful.

I'm super impatient with games so I expect deaths to start to pick up once the game gets going.

Was backing away from a guy with a shield and some jerk firebombed from above. I backed muself off of a cliff.

There was a rat in a tunnel that I couldn't hit because of my axe swing.
Lured him to the entrance, hit him once, fell off of a cliff.

Just a bunch of skeletons and a skeleton archer.

That opening cinematic said that there were no more dragons and I'm pretty sure I just saw a dragon. I feel lied to.

Fell off a cliff, thought PHEW I LANDED ON A LOWER LANDED. Backed away from shield guy off of that cliff...

I thought I had killed a zombie guy when I had in fact NOT killed that guy. Stabbed me in the back while focused on an archer. :(

If it weren't for cliffs! I've got a buddy named Cliff and I'm not sure I can trust him after this.

Made it to a new bonfire and calling it a night.
I figure I have to be what, 15% through the game? Definitely.

While stats make a difference, the most important thing in the Souls series is personal experience. You start out feeling helpless, but once you get an understanding of the controls and the rhythm of combat (and learn to be patient when needed) you find yourself dealing with challenges much better.

Fireball was a tad slower to throw than I thought, skeleton stabbed me good just as I lit him on fire.

Was trying to use the windows gamebar to record all of my deaths but it glitched out and hadn't been saving most of the clips.

Hopefully gonna find some time to play a good chunk tonight and get those deaths going.

Seeing someone die from environmental hazards in a Souls games as opposed to enemies in general is odd. Not in a bad way, though.

So was not a fan of that bridge demon thing. Whoever left the note suggesting a leaping attack is a hero. Still very nearly died as it took like, 4 or 5 leaps, but RIP Diablo-looking troll demon.

Kind of both? You should save it for a good weapon, but you can get some good weapons pretty early.

Someone else might be able to give better advice on this, I've only played through the game once.
