Certainly don't think he should have done that. He should have just ignored her and kept on driving. Really, I don't agree with anything he's doing. That being the case, she did instigate it and to me that makes her the problem.

She may have instigated the taunting, but he instigated the physicality and escalated it by getting out of his vehicle to threaten violence. At that point, it becomes his problem, especially legally.

Pretty much everything he's doing is wrong, I can't dispute that at all. Though if not for her this would have never happened.

Yeah, but that's a poor excuse for his actions because what she did had no actual impact on him whatsoever, is the point. That's like getting arrested for assault and telling police "Yeah but she called me ugly so it's her fault." Any time anybody escalates anything past speech, that person becomes at fault, regardless of who started things verbally. If you have to point at a teenager and go "Yeah but they made fun of me" to explain something you did, you done fucked up.

I guess we just view this a bit differently.

I agree he shouldn't have gotten out of his car. He shouldn't have approached her threateningly. He shouldn't have said most of what he said. He certainly seems to have anger issues that may need checking into. So I'm not excusing his actions at all. I think he approached this situation horribly.

My viewpoint on this is like a damaged part at the start of an assembly line. Everything ends up wrong, but only because of that first part. Sure it's all wrong, but that first part is the reason and the problem.

See, where I disagree is that likening it to a damaged part doesn't seem fair, since a damaged part means the rest is going to end up messed up and there's no getting around it. Her yelling at him/giving him the finger/whatever she did does not instantly mean the rest has to end up messed up. It was HIS choice after that that made things worse. It's more like she was the first worker on the assembly line and whined about the job, and then he, as the second guy on the assembly line, damaged the part out of annoyance/anger from her whining. He can try to say "Well, I only did it because she said ___," but at the end of the day, all the damage is entirely his doing.

EDIT: If something doesn't have to escalate, but you choose to escalate it, it's your fault.

Yea I see where you're going, and that's a good point. I think we mostly agree on the situation just disagree on who the main problem is.

Yeah, she shouldn't be running her mouth like that, teenager or not. That said, we also don't know what actually started it. We don't know if he yelled anything first, his truck window's down so it's possible. All we can see is him choosing to get out of his truck and threaten violence, so that's why I take the side of saying he's the problem, since while we don't actually know who started it, what we do know is he had zero legitimate reason to do what he did.
