AlisLandale 11/18/20 5:08:31 PM #1:	Ultraman Nexus was an attempt to skew the Ultraman franchise into a slightly older direction. It featured darker themes than was typical of the series, and a serialized story. But the TV station stuck it on an early morning time slot where the intended audience couldnt be bothered, and the original young child audience was too scared by the violence and death. As a result, it was cut short from its intended ~50 episode run to 37. The rushed ending wasnt terrible, but a far cry from what they had already planned and written for the final arc. (Also, they fucked over a female supporting character, which isnt new for the Tokusatsu genre, but especially disappointing considering how they had been developing her, and how the franchise had already ~~screwed a female character out of being an Ultraman host in~~ its early years ) Super Dimension Calvary Southern Cross was a fun mecha anime. Cut short from its intended 50 episode run to a mere 25, they rushed through a final arc and ended on a weird downer ending. Whats really a shame is that the series, imo, shined when it took the time to do some character-focused filler eps, which were abandoned as they moved the story into the endgame so they could wrap it up. The series is actually pretty fascinating in terms of how it was developed, and all the factors that lead to its failure. Fortunately it had just enough time to wrap up a lot of the personal arcs, though the dad-lore with the pocket watches wouldve been cool to see expanded. Shame since it kept getting better and better and despite the McFarlane humor is a better successor to old Trek than Discovery. Orville is a show by people who loved Trek who wanted to make a show inspired by it; its not Trek but you can feel the heart and genuine affection for the sci fi stories it aims to join.
