With Kate, I *think* the implication is that she was good from the start and was just acting evil to be a spy... but I was left feeling like I missed a scene in there. There really should've been something with her turning good or explaining what was going on.

You mean if you send Claire the gift on the Courageous yourself it just gives the "Sent [Item] to Major Claire" system text and Rean doesn't add any thoughts to it? Yeah, the Salt Pales aren't really Salt Pales if they're not turning stuff to Salt, are they? The implication seems to be that the Intelligence Division recovered some remnants of the OG Salt Pale that the Septian Church missed (CS4 says this is the party's hypothesis but one of the Black Records in CS3 strongly hints this happened) and then tried to reverse engineer it or something? I guess maybe they couldn't reverse-engineer the salt part because that was the one truly "wtf" aspect of them that made them existentially horrifying. ...Also makes the name silly to keep using but that's how I took it. And yeah, my best guess was that Kate was faking it early on but I looked all around and couldn't find her in 3-2 so unless she was really well hidden I agree it feels like a scene was missing.

We're still aboard the Merkabah, and Kurt is manning the counter in the kitchen with Elliot seated in front of him. Apparently, they're going to do rotating shifts, and the shop here is taking the place of Jingo's role, so that's nice. Fie is busy doing some weapons maintenance. One of the squires is in charge of weapons and orbments upgrades, and it's weird to see people saying "Father Gaius!" The entrance to the engine room looks super suspicious. I want to go in more than ever now! Jusis and Ash are just sitting around reading. Ash surprises Jusis by reading a book about agriculture, and Ash says it doesn't feel right to be reading fiction while they're in the middle of all this. Ash has had a few neat little moments like that so far. Sara is making the most of the training room, and Machias is hanging out in the reference room, gathering intel and challenging me to Pom Party. Finally, Rean takes the time to give Celine a verbal thank you and promises to give her a proper thank you once all this is over, which is a nice moment.

As we get close to landing, Rean decides to wash his face, and Alisa walks in on him and glomps him from behind for some reason. They both worry over the other, Alisa about Rean's new appearance, and Rean about Alisa's family situation. Rean and Gaius discuss a landing strategy, and Rean realizes that Gaius was already on a mission from the church even back in CS3 when they met him at Bryonia Island. Old Class VII reminisces on when Group B visited here in CS1 during their field exercises while Group A was in Nord. This was back when Laura and Fie weren't getting along. Feels like forever ago at this point!

We've actually got access to the whole friggin' Class VII now, but we can only have 6 in the active party, which is kinda lame! I prefer keeping all of New Class VII on hand if possible, and I don't want to have to open the menu to rotate party members constantly either. We make a side trip to visit the husk of the Sept-Terrion of Fire, Ark Rouge, which the Hexen Clan has watched over for centuries. The Gnomes watched over Lost Zem, the Sept-Terrion of Earth, whose husk is in the Nord Highlands. They combined to create the Sept-Terrion of Cold Steel, or at least that's what it should be. This is a nice refresher course. They also ask where in the world the battle took place if their husks ended up a thousand selge apart. Musse, Emma, and Celine seem to have a candidate in mind, but they don't say exactly where, although they hint it became a singularity and it's considered a cursed place. I guess that would be the Giliath Basin then?

We discover a Trial Chest for Rean and Juna with a super annoying enemy inside that mostly inflicts status effects, but we prevail and power up Rean's Iron Will Brave Order. As we progress through the island, Rean and Gaius sense something powerful up ahead, and they suggest we avoid it for now. I'm guessing it's a high level cryptid, so I'm not too worried about it!

CS4 Eventide complete.

This was a fun little interlude chapter.

Total devaluation of Divine Blade for Rean to get it here though. literally two years ago he was beginner level in Eight Leaves and now he's a Divine Blade? This Anelace disrespect is disgusting unless she's actually like Divine Blade+. yeah yeah apparently she's not a direct disciple but that itself is some bullshit. I'm also not entirely sure what Cassius did there, like I'd be 100% fine assuming all that was metaphorical but he made it sound like changing how he's perceived by Rean is a real, legit thing and that sounds like magic.

Mishelam events were a bit underwhelming like I think CS1 actually pulled this ticket thing off the best in terms of event content. The exception was Beryl's events which unfortunately only let 6 people in instead of being the whole crew like the Ferris Wheel or Horror Coaster. Elliot being on that list though is sus af. Elliot for Enforcer in meme Ouroboros. The others all made sense but him? i'm on to you Enforcer XII - Elliot, the Ostinato Musician. It was pretty neat that Millium joins in for Jusis's Sparkler Event and Altina's Horror Coaster Event though. That's cute. Drinking Contest quest was fun too even if Aurelia was denied her rightful victory in yet another field. Sara/Sharon/Schera group imba af though that was just a monster draw.

I save scummed to see all events, including all the final bond events I could see. Not going to go comprehensive here except to say that for a brief moment I thought that NISA might have saved us from the atrocity that Falcom inflicted on us with Altina because for most of it it was - and again this is literally the defining feature of these events at this point - actually excellent when you take the romance out of it with the sheer emotion in Altina's voice and Rean telling her she's completely wrong to think of herself as "fake." AND IF IT STOPPED THERE THIS WOULD BE WONDERFUL. But then, just like Arianrhod, I was knifed in the back by an unwanted development when Rean makes sure to bring up the whole romance part. goddddddddd if Falcom didn't lose their damn minds and insert romance in these Altina bond events they'd be among the best bond/character content across the series but NOPE for some reason they did it.

Did legit lol at the "Rean picks no girl/has no romance" scene where Rean, Machias, and Elliot are together and Machias starts lamenting on his lack of love life and Elliot is like "Later, losers, I got myself a date" and just leaves the room. like lmfao. Also I could have complained about this at almost any point but it's more relevant now but I do not appreciate this "development" to Jusis's relationship to Millium. It started back in CS3 but I just kind of pretended it wasn't happening but it has become clearer and clearer through CS4 that I am going to lose this one.

Anyway, onto the Finale now. ...Looking at the shop updates and wow glad I've been hoarding U-Materials instead of crafting stuff with them.

Eh, it's not a huge deal, it's just what I presume are the ultimate versions of the Divine Knight/Panzer Soldat Orbs just became available and the cost is 96 U-Materials. Each. (Plus a ultimate-level regular quartz for the appropriate stat - so like Ultimate Attack Boost Quartz for the Attack Orb, etc.)

The orb is a huge upgrade over the previous tier though it's just... wow that's a lot. Especially when you've got new weapon upgrades and such at the same time.

Nah, U-Material cap is released. I had over 300 on hand when this started (I'm at like 30 now after making 3 of those to equip). I dunno if it's 999 now or what but it's definitely not 99 anymore, which is a welcome change. I know I was keeping an eye on that when I first approached 100 to see if the cap was still there like it was for the previous games.

I really liked this one, though I was surprised it ended without them really fighting any more members of the Troupe beyond Uvogin! I guess they'll presumably continue to factor into future arcs.

I've also started Greed Island; not super sold on this card game premise, but we'll see I guess!

Yeah, it's not stated explicitly, but I concur with Mac that it was Mint. Going solely by the events of Eventide, Mint mentioned she plans to meet up with Elliot later after you view the event where she crashes Schmidt and Makarov's conversation. Later, after Rean becomes a Divine Blade, a few people move around and Elliot and Mint are among them. They move to the reception area of the House of Mirrors where Rosine, Ferris, and Bridget had been waiting for her and becoming a subevent. When they ask what Elliot's doing there she claims that she "ran into" Elliot and they just roll with it and let him join their group but it pings Rean's suspicions that she changed her story here. lowkey Rean's shipping radar is pretty cute the whole way through Eventide. I also could have sworn there was some light hinting/teasing of Mint and Elliot prior to Eventide but I can't recall exactly what and where now.
