Gaming journalists getting jobs at gaming studios and publishers is ridiculously common. Gaming journalists getting jobs for writing games also isn't irregular. Some of those guys have already written for properties like Star Wars, Halo and Half-Life. All of these are through connections. Gaming industry isn't that big and stuff like a 'Junior Writer' doesn't exactly need to be someone who has written for games before. The only unique thing about Alanah Pearce is she has a YouTube following but even then not really.
