The nuance in this is impossible to keep in check. Just be responsible for yourself and stop wanting people to go to prison everytime you make a mistake.

My bad, I got ahead of myself. I meant the nuance in one party thinking it's more than it is. It can be completely their fault they think that. We've all met people who could be flat out told what it is, and they still think the person is being mysterious.

so i was trying to google a case where a woman literally withdrew consent after the fact because she found out the guy wasn't as wealthy as he claimed to be, but i couldn't find that, but i did find this and it's infuriating

That would be thought crime. How is the other party supposed to know that the person you literally met the same day is thinking this is going to be a long term relationship. It she gave it up willingly its not rape.

To be fair, lying to get sex is a pretty scummy thing to do in general.

I get what that person is saying, though s/he said it in a really snarky, dickish way. Isn't sex under any false pretences rape? If not, where is the line?

Conditional sex is pretty rapey in itself.

I just remember a while ago there was a case where Israel convicted a man of rape because his partner thought he was Jewish, but he was actually Palestinian. I don't remember if he actively lied, but even so, it seems conceptually absurd to me that that would constitute rape.

This reminds me of a situation I was in. I was friends with a girl (A) who was FWB with another girl (B). B inquired to A if she and I had anything "going on" and A said no because I was asexual.

Since then, I've been examining my own sexuality. I don't think I'm purely asexual, but I have an extremely low libido, so I'm effectively asexual. I mentioned this to A who eventually mentioned it to B. Cue B absolutely losing her shit, accusing A of lying to her about MY sexuality, and generally implying the sort of thing this tweet is getting at.

You might be wondering, "What did this cow care if you, an unrelated third party, weren't asexual?" Hell if I know. That chick is screwier than the shelves at a Home Depot. Complete drama queen who whines and pouts like she's 14 even though she's in her 20s.

Probably felt you weren't an "unrelated third party", and was possibly worried A was cheating on her with you.

I know you'll argue that if they're FWB then it shouldn't matter if you're together, but that kind of thing can still hurt.

Manipulative. But that doesn't even remotely mean it's okay to rape them.

Yeah, I thought you were talking about the people that are like "I won't have sex with someone unless they make an X figure income and look like Brad Pitt". Which is shallow, sure, but entirely their prerogative.

Nope. I like looking at attractive people, but there's zero drive to do anything about it. Had some recent trauma that scared me off even considering self-pleasuring, so I'm back to basically asexual. I have an almost non-existent libido, so it doesn't really bother me. More emotionally hurt by the trauma and the lack of compassion from the person who caused it than anything.

Considering that B was in an open relationship with her wife and finding FWBs all over the place, it'd be pretty hypocritical of her to throw a fit over that.

Rape by deception is a thing, but extending it too far makes me feel that more harm than good will be done for victims of assault. It's already hard enough for them to get taken seriously.

It's still very much a dick thing to do though and terrible manipulation.

And I find that pretty hypocritical if you're going to concern yourself with the idea of a fuck buddy "cheating" on you when there's no established monogamy. By all means, be concerned about introduction of new partners because of the increased risk, but that clearly wasn't this chick's problem.

There has to be duplicity on a level above a small lie to turn it into rape. While its an absolutely shitty to do, you couldnt ever prove that person A didnt have the intent to become a couple with person B and just changed their mind. You can however prove that person A purposely crossdressed with the intent of making person B believe they are of the opposite sex. You can prove that person A hacked person Bs emails and pretended to be person C who was chatting with person B on a dating site.
