I would wait and see how the versions run first.

At launch the Series S will be playing the Xbox One in BC mode. It'll likely have a very solid framerate but resolution will probably only be about 900p. Eventually there will be a next gen patch that'll bump it up to 1080-1440p but who knows how long that will be.

because if he can find a Series S, he can play the same game for hundreds of dollars cheaper. over a thousand dollars cheaper in fact. not everyone has to have bleeding edge perfect graphics. 2 thousand dollar computer vs like 300 or whatever Series S? I think most people would take the Series S if all they care about is one game

My 5700XT can allegedly hit 4k 60fps on most games according to a bunch of posts I read and benchmark videos I watched when researching it

But I play in 1080p so I can max out absolutely everything at 120-144fps

For now. Next generation starts this week. It's easier to max out games developed for the tail end of a generation.

Your card is also dated for features like ray tracing as well so no you're not maxing out everything already.

Meh, I run RDR2 at max settings and that's the only game that doesn't exceed 100fps (gets like 80-90) so I don't really care. I'll be able to run next gen stuff with some lowered settings to hit the frames I want and it'll still look good enough.

I'll probably upgrade the card in a few years though

Yeah the card will still run games for a while for sure since it's crossgen for a couple of years. But your settings and resolutions are gonna be bumped down until you upgrade. IMO it's worth waiting until 2-3 years into a console generation to upgrade the GPU anyway.
