They both traditionally just cause damage over time.

Generally poison is a slower/longer DOT vs high damage/short time DOT of fire.

Depends on the game. In Pokemon, burn also cuts the enemy attack. In some games like Nioh and Monster Hunter, you can roll or go into water to get rid of burn.

Burn lowers physical attack in Pokmon, cuts it in half IIRC.

Poison is poison.

Burn means they've combusted in flames.

Burn lowers attack
This. I think it's -2 attack, or half damage.

They specified the game.

The other point is in rpgs poison usually does damage while walking after battle.

Poison is cured with antidote. Burn is cured with salve or something.

As of Gen 3 it halves damage. Gen 1 and 2 halved the Attack stat.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Yep. Poison does 1/8th, Burn does 1/16th and halves damage from physical moves, and Badly Poisoned (or Toxic) does 1/16th the first turn and increases by 1/16th each turn.

Also, to add to the above: Fire types and Pokemon with the Water Veil ability are immune to burns, while Poison types, Steel types, Pokemon with the Immunity and Comatose abilities, and Meteor Form Minior are immune to being poisoned unless the attacker has the Corrosion ability, currently only possessed by Salandit and Salazzle.
Additionally, Pokemon with the ability Poison Heal reverse the effect of poison: they regain 1/8 of their HP per turn("bad" poison is rendered normal poison, in their case) when "afflicted" with poison status.

Burn;
+ lose like 8% of your health every turn
+ Attack stat cut in half, which is very bad for those who need it
- can't burn fire types
- inflicting a burn is less common than poison
- Pokemon with special moves night as well treat it like normal poison

Poison;
+ Lose like 8% of your health every turn
+ Very easy and common to inflict, almost every Pokemon can inflict it
+ Certain Pokemon can be healed by this status effect
- can't poison other poison types, and also can't poison steel types (let alone hurt them)
- if you have the choice, burning is typically better to inflict

Toxic aka super poison;
+ All of the above, except that last point
+ Toxic does increasingly more damage over time, eventually doing more damage than the Pokemons max health,guarantee a KO if it gets to that point
+ Wildly available to like 90% of Pokemon
- starts out slow, lower health loss at the start
- switching out a toxic inflicted mon turns it into normal poison
