i like gta5 better but i do feel that LIberty City felt more alive than Los santos does in gta5. more stuff to do, see, and everything is so compact. in gta5, everything is so spread out and empty. yeah the story is better but eh.

It was certainly an unexpected cycle of events: buying GTA 4, being so bored with it that I gave up after a few hours, buying Saints Row 2 on a whim out of a bargain bin a month or two later, and finding much to my surprise that SR 2 kicked GTA 4's ass up, down and sideways.

GTA 4 had an amazing environment, great physics (better than 5), and a solid story. (None of these games have a good story, but GTA 4 had the best individual scenes).

My problem with GTA 4 is it has a huge disconnect between story and gameplay. Nico's going on and on about how he wants to escape his fucked up past and then you're in control and the game tells you to start murdering everyone.

That's part of the story though. Especially at the beginning, the game really highlights the contrast between Niko trying to live a normal life and then moonlighting as a hitman

4 sucked, it was so damn boring.
Saints Row: The Third was way better and that's when Saints Row moved away from being a GTA clone.

IV's damage model on cars is SOOOO much better than V's. Also I like Nico more than any of the 3 protags in V. The Ballad of Gay Tony was also a great expansion...of which V had none.

V is better in just about every other way, though.

GTA IV is the one I couldn't play. The physics were so bad.

Hell I'll even say I enjoy the story and characters more than 5.

The only thing that's holding gta 4 back is the controls since it's clunky the car driving physics and better graphics.

Honestly I would go so far as to say that GTA IV had the best supporting cast of any GTA. The side characters were so good. GTA V was a big step back in that regard

I vastly prefer the wacky arcade physics of Vice City and San Andreas over IVs and Vs.

I didnt care for the driving physics but other than that I really enjoyed it.TBoGT was a great expansion too.

If I had to go back and replay each GTA story mode I would rank them in this order: Vice City > San Andreas > GTA 4 > GTA5 > GTA 3. Vice City and San Andreas were the most fun to play and had the right amount of arcade feel to them and didn't have the floaty controls both had good stories one being like Scarface and the other like Boyz In The Hood.

GTA 4 I thought the story felt more like how a GTA game was supposed to be despite the annoying phone calls. GTA 5 wasn't bad but I hated the triple protagonist gimmick it wss trying to do too much at once plus I thought the main characters sucked Franklin was the only decent character. I'd rather play 4 any day of the week over 5 just because I think it's more dark and gritty and feels more like how GTA is supposed to be even more so than VC and SA.

Exactly, people crying cause they can't do +100 mph around corners. Get gud at driving fucking scrubs.

My son when he was 5 yrs old could drive just fine on GTA 4, why can't these people handle the car physics.

The driving is one of the things I love about it. They really leaned into analog controls for driving and if you can get good at it, it feels fucking amazing. Feels somewhat sim-like

I don't think that's something you should brag about...

My kids arent sheltered like most kids there age. When GTA4 came out he was 3 1/2 -4 yrs old. We wouldn't let him play "story mode". We'd put him online in a private free roam so randoms couldn't join, turn the police off and he'd just drive around the city.

The story, characters, setting, physics, and overall atmosphere are the best of the series. I like the more realistic feel. The whole thing was dark and gritty done right. The only thing 4 really needed was more stuff to do. Plus there were the DLCs, which are some of the best done DLC for a game period.

To make a comparison: I feel like 4 is like The Wire while 5 is like Breaking Bad.

Those. To quote Peppy Hare to all the haters "USE THE BRAKE!". I find the flaws of the game and Rockstar games in general for the most part, get exaggerated to hell by people. They act like Roman or the others call your phone every 5 minutes when it's not true. Besides, you can always turn the phone on silent and if one is worried about losing progress with the friends, just accept the invite and then cancel. It won't go down 90% of the time.

The question isnt, to me, if the physics are good. The question is to the physics make IV and V fun? The answer to me is not even close.
