Do you think this family deserves millions over this?

9 y/o Lydia Booth from Mississippi was BANNED from wearing this face mask to school after she was forced to remove it and now her parents are filing a lawsuit violating her first amendment rights!!

It happened at Simpson Central School when Principal Antoinette Woodall demanded the 3rd grader to take off the covering because it violated school's policy

Now they filed a lawsuit in US District Court after an assistant teacher gave her a plain face mask substitute as Matthew and Jennifer Booth are seeking a JURY trial and demanding MILLIONS in damages saying it greatly upset their little girl.

They said there was nothing in the handbook about wearing this type of mask and claim they updated the school policy 2 days after this to ban any political, sexual or religious face coverings

They also said students were allowed to wear sports team logos on it or "Black Lives Matter" which they say is political and should be banned

Now with the help of the Alliance Defending Freedom Association they will sue on Lydia's consititutional rights as lawyer Michael Ross says public schools have a duty to respect free expression of students that the First Amendment Rights guarantees them

Do you think they deserve MILLIONS for this?

While the lawsuit is justified, that shit ain't worth millions.

...of course, given the school's response, I'm thinking it's time we take BLM's advice and remove qualified immunity so those administrators (and possibly teachers) can be sued personally instead of the city or state being hit for their dumbfuckery.

If they really did update it after, I think the family should win. But not millions. It doesn't really seem like a bad face covering, though. I don't really see the problem. But Idk...

And why should we sue for millions people? Because fuck you. You hurt our fee fees, and its the American way!! You see a potential obligation to sue and walk away with cash? Then this just might scratch that itch. We'll use this situation as a good example not to lead by example, but also try to walk away as millionaires too! >_>

And what "damages" are they even fucking talking about thats worth millions?? You honestly cant look me in the eye and tell me face to face that this is a load of shit.

There's nothing offensive, hateful, or inflammatory about this one. I could respect the school's decision in that incident where the offender wore a shirt that used religion to attack certain demographics, but in this case, there's no rational ground upon which to justify attacking a 9 year old little girl's freedom.

Still, taking $1,000,000 from the educational system would be an injustice upon her fellow students, but justice demands the school staff involved in persecuting the child's innocent and positive expression be punished. A few thousand dollars, most or ideally all of which coming from the personal finances of the people who wronged her rather than the county educational budget, and knowledge that those people won't be bullying young children again any time soon should be more than compensation and prevention enough.

The school was wrong but they don't deserve money. Makes me think the parents knew the response the school would have so they did it to cash in.

It's a case where both parties are in the wrong.

Banned for that? Insane.

Asking for THAT much money? Insane.

No matter which side wins, others not even involved lose.

If the school's dress code does indeed prohibit religious attire and whatnot (and didn't change the rules shortly after this happened, as the family is alleging), that seems like fair game. If the school's rules prohibit such things but have been giving leniency to certain other political statements, that's inconsistent and wrong. If the rules don't actually exist or were amended after the fact, then they have nothing to stand on.

Regardless, there is absolutely no way to make a legitimate claim that this warrants a seven-figure "damages" payout. A couple thousand (plus legal fees) at the absolute most.

Its ridiculous that she would be banned for wearing it, but its equally silly to sue over it.
I say that specifically because believers are told in the Bible to patiently endure persecution and suffering that occur for the sake of Christ, and so a Christian suing for discrimination here ironically reveals that they dont know a whole lot about Christianity (or arent interested in following it when theres a potential payday).
I say all this as a Christian myself who is tired of seeing people who dont know the Bible representing Christianity in the public eye.

The parents are forcing their belies on this kid. Although it didn't say in the handbook not to wear any political, sexual or religious masks I'd have thought this would be common sense. Sadly these selfish parents lack that and no they deserve nothing.
