Have you ever walked out in the middle of a job?

If so, what was the reason?

yes. At least 15 years ago now but the reasons were safety and the boss and two coworkers being total dicks.

I literally stormed out and kicked a concrete planter outside into pieces and didn't even contact them for two weeks till I called about my last check.

Dude was like "oh I didn't realize you quit I figured you'd come back."

Like bud I flipped you and the other two employees off, walked out and kicked your flower thing to pieces... didn't think I needed to say it after that.

I also quit one other job without notice cause the boss was such a prick. I finished my shift all stoic, confirmed I could start a new job the next day, then called and told the hr dude i was done. HR guy was a total dick too. The previous hr head was a super awesome guy and the companies saving grace but he got fired for requesting a month off when his wife was dying off cancer.

Oh and actually my last job before this one I confronted the boss and told him to lay me off since he defied all wcb safety regs and would never pay on time or without a fight and lied entirely about hours.

That may have been the most satisfying one

Warehouse job I worked at for 8 years.

Mental health started going to shit and it started affecting my work. My manager was a psycho as well and wouldn't ever get off my case so I just left at the end of my shift one day and never went back.

my last one, actually. original boss took on a partner (officially in November, but functionally in July). I've known both these people for decades. the new guy is caustic, but i thought it could work.

narrator: it didn't work.

he was immediately the "boss from hell" caricature. nothing was ever done right. nothing was ever enough. i went from ~85% autonomy to being under this guy's thumb in all things. and he wasn't even supposed to be able to give me suggestions, let alone orders. but the original boss couldn't, or wouldn't, get him to back off. So, after about 5 months of this, i gave up. Gave 20 days notice at the beginning of January. Somehow, neither of them seemed to see it coming. they both tried a lot of words to get me to reconsider. so i did. it was pretty much the job i want, barring not actually being the owner.

the first day after i said i would stay was a very busy night. the new owner also was unable to be there. it went great. i was happy, the old boss was happy, the customers were happy. at the end of the night, after working from 4PM to about 2AM, and expected to be back in early the next afternoon, i start to drive home.

it's cold, there's a snowstorm coming, and my tire is completely flat. in the cold and dark, it looks like there's a major puncture. i have a spare and a jack, but can't remember how to work it and don't want to do something stupid while i'm so tired. I call AAA. am told it'll be about an hour. 75 minutes later, they call me back, tell me the guy on call declined to help me. they're looking for a backup. He doesn't get to me until after 5. as he's working, i make some conversation, mention the long wait. he tells me he's the guy on call for the area, and AAA never even offered him my case. awesome.

so, i get to bed a little before 7. wake up a little before 1. exhausted and frustrated, but decide just to get going. i get to work a little later than i hoped to, but the old boss knew my situation and understood. new boss is occupied with a customer when i get there. i immediately go to help another customer, who is a regular. old boss finishes with his customer. demands i move to let him pass, while we're behind a counter that's barely 1 person deep. i tell him that there's a new entrance to get to where he needs to get to. i think i was polite about it, but apparently he took this as me telling him i just killed his mother. immediately starts back up all the shit i had just unquit over.

i'm already having an awful day. it's clear this guy is never going to change. peace.

that was pretty cathartic.

I have a few times. In construction, sometimes you roll up your cords and go to the house.

One time there was this old Iron Worker who was running the job. I was just painting the pipes for safety that day, and asked him how I was supposed to reach this one section that was way out of reach.

He cussed me out, so I threw a paint brush at him.......then I hauled ass, because that old man would have killed me! I'm 6'4 and 250 pounds, but that old man had arms that would make a gorilla jealous.

Eh not in the middle of a shift, but I have left with no two weeks notice before.

The very last time I worked at a Kroger I put in a one week's notice because my new job made me work sooner than expected, but after the day I put in the notice I just stopped showing up, even blocked their number so they couldn't contact me.

The job I had after that I was a caretaker to disabled people but the management there sucked and the working conditions were awful so I worked one last miserable day and just told the manager I wasn't coming back.

Kinda.

I worked the schedule and got time off.

I ended up stuck in atlanta because I had to renew my ID and the DMV was shut for some absurd amount of days.

I called and told them I wouldn't be able to make it back as I was out of state and it would take three days. They said alright.

Then I got back and they claimed no call no show. Said I had to call every day I was scheduled and couldn't come in to work. Manager said sorry it was corporate policy (which had never been mentioned to me), but he was willing to rehire me immediately.

I had recently started handling inventory and small business orders and had gotten two raises. I would be working the same position but would revert to base pay.

I laughed in his face and walked out.

Telemarketer for MCI. I quit after a couple months. It was hell.

They had an awards assembly one day. I got my perfect attendance award, told my boss I quit, then walked out.

During a low point I was working 3 jobs, two full-time and I was washing dishes at IHOP two nights a week. Manager was a complete POS and the other dishwasher was his boy, so the nights they knew I was working, the breakfast/lunch dishwasher did little to nothing, and i'd go into literal 16+ bus tubs of dishes and then i'd be told I can't leave until it's done. Got me on the wrong day and he was pushing me hard because he had somewhere to go on a Friday night and couldn't lock up until I was done, even though he let his buddy do nothing all day. I had at least 10 tubs left at that point and he was the kind of guy who would never lift a finger to clean or help his staff. So I just walked out the door that night and left it all for his buddy to take care of the next morning and never went back.

Beginning of March

I was contract with a fairly inconsistent pay schedule, which led me to thinking I was getting paid more often than I was -basically they were paying me every month for less than that amount of work, and after a few months I had realized they hadn't paid me out for any work done in 2 months.

I went up to my boss, put in my two weeks (regardless of pay that job was fucking miserable) and told my boss to give me a fucking check. They did that day which I proceeded to walk over to the bank and...the check bounced over that weekend. So Monday I just told my boss I was out.
