Serious question. Is it really that easy to make tons of them? The thought of creating an alt never crossed my mind. I've never heard of any other forum that has this problem, so why is it an issue on Gamefaqs?

While alts are a constant across all message boards, Gamefaqs is probably worse and a lot of that comes down to the way that the site is administrated where the mod selection process is sketchy at best and they keep revamping rules (and and the moderation system) every few years. And, unlike a lot of other sites, you can potentially be banned for things other people do, given their rules regarding shared networks.

A good chunk of the board seems to have at least one alt for their other account is warned. However, given the variation in moderation where two people can say the same thing yet one is fine and the other is warned, not everybody necessarily runs into trouble. And lurkers, etc, might not even notice when they've been warned because they're too infrequent.

Then, of course, there's just the matter of people who forget their password and recovery details so they have to make a new account.

Even with the countless people who do it? Quite a few of my alts were directly inspired by other posters. I made a Krogan-pun-based account (despite never playing Mass Effect) because the board had several posters named Krogan at the time, including the infamous KBE who had quite a few alts.

Bear in mind that we have a Joe-Biden and Kamala-Harris gimmick alt now. Haven't you ever been tempted to join in on the festivities?

Eh, not really. But I'm not really creative though haha.

Bear in mind he admitted quite a few of them. Goldenrodradio was one, and I had a lot of the others on my ignore list until he got them banned and I didn't bother keeping them afterward. Right now I'm convinced that Horned is his latest, although Horned has neither admitted it nor provided anything concrete I can present as evidence.

You weren't behind KBE, were you? I've never been able to fully keep up with your hi-jinks. In general, I don't always manage to ID alts (and instead sometimes go on others' word) and assume more people are legit than I probably should. For instance, one of the more recent times Carlisle returned I didn't know it was him.

Nah. Krogan and I would message each other back in the day and I knew who his alts were. Thats really the only reason why I asked.

Reddit for one. Since it's pretty common for people to creep your post history and also witch-hunt those who go against the circle-jerk. I create new accounts all the time to stay anonymous. And a lot of people have throw-aways for discussing sensitive topics since reddit is so popular it's common to be recognized and your identity linked with your posts.

I'm picturing that Joe is helly but I can't even keep up with what he's using anymore if anything.

I used to create many accounts on Digichat sites due to mods often been sensitive. I imaging the same rings true here.
