Cheetahs were once found in North America and pronghorns evolved to run from them. No living North American hunters can come close to matching their speed.

I'm pretty sure stuff like this is a whole subject itself within science.

Like how avocado seeds are so large because they were meant to be distributed by massive mammals that no longer exist.

Also the American Cheetah probably evolved completely separately from the African Cheetah, with no common ancestor.

I used to chase them in my car

They can go 50mph and look at you like you're annoying them. They run like superheros, like they're just casually jogging but have a huge dust cloud behind them

A very fine example of parallel evolution given that its not TOO distantly related to the Old World Cheetah (it still lives in Asia!). One of the reconstructions that I saw had it looking like a mountain lion. imagine that... a super fast mountain lion.

lmao yeah they were supposed to be bigger than the African Cheetahs, like Mountain Lion-sized. That's horrifying.

Modern African cheetahs and Mountain lions are of similar size.
